I am freckled, freckled, and frelling freckled.

My Self-Summary

I tell the truth and it gets me in trouble. I'm a mix of nerd and hedonist, but sly comments tend to go over my head at an alarming altitude. Sometimes I'm shy, sometimes I'm quiet, and sometimes I babble incessantly. As I get older, I'm finding that my shyness is dissipating...I can be a trifle blunt at times. Goofy, ditzy, philosophical, too serious yet always laughing; a smile is the normal expression on my face. I have a rather odd sense of humor, but occasionally am able to make other people laugh.

I recently looked at my profile and realized it was far too wordy, so a massive edit has just taken place. Can a person be summarized in one to two paragraphs? Apparently so.
(additional edit)
Upon reconsideration, I've decided that if I can't blather on about myself here, where can I? So the following is subject to frequent change, which I think will be entertaining, if only for myself.

For fun, I like to hang out with friends and family. I prefer homes and coffee shop environments rather than clubs or bars. I've been to a few late night beach bonfires lately that were really fun, too. I like roller coasters and ren-faires, board and card games, and dark beer.

I don't care much for drama, manipulative behavior, or organized religion.

I find tall men attractive, and long hair on a guy incredibly sexy, but neither are prerequisites. Common sense, intelligence and good conversation are.

What I’m doing with my life

What I'm doing with my life...that makes me want to expound some deep, philosophical witticism that will astound and astonish the reader...but the truth is, I'm just drifting along trying to make sense of things, just like everybody else. In general, I believe you have to have goals, even if they're unattainable (that's actually best, since you always have something to look forward to), and yeah, occasionally I take a little step towards one.

More specifically, I work full time, take care of my two dogs and my house. I've been recovering from the '07 suicide of someone who was very close to me. I mention this because it's colored a great many facets of my life since then, and I imagine it affects me in ways I'm not even aware of. I'm not looking for a serious relationship at this point... I believe I've gotten to a good place in my head, and I'm learning more every day about who I am. I am enjoying the journey now, and I'm not quite ready to slow down.

Of course, that doesn't mean I'm not an opportunist ;).

I recently obtained a second, part time job. I am still adjusting to the new demands on my time...so if I don't get back to you quickly, please be understanding.

I’m really good at

listening, laughing, smiling, kissing, getting along with just about anybody, unintentionally offending the thin-skinned, and putting my foot in my mouth. I'm also good at calming people down, writing research papers, and enjoying myself.

I'm terrible at math, but algebra is fun.

The first things people usually notice about me

my smile and my eyes. Or so they say. Some say other things...

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

My favorite hobby is reading science fiction and fantasy. Some of my favorite authors are Robert A. Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, Laurell K. Hamilton, Charlaine Harris, Elizabeth Moon, Robert Silverberg, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Piers Anthony and David Eddings. I am a bookaholic.

I love cheesy old B horror flicks, old Dr. Who episodes (especially with Tom Baker), and just about anything that has an element of the supernatural in it. Vampires, shapeshifters, psychic powers, I love them all. Murder mysteries are good...action films are meh, comedies (shrug), and your standard chick flicks get a frown.

I like '80's pop music, classic heavy metal, classic rock, '50's rock, with a little punk and classical thrown in. Instead of listing a lot of bands I like, I'd like to discuss what it is about music that I enjoy. I like vocalists with range, lyrics that tell a story vs. meaninglessness, and voices that create a tune separate from yet complimentary to that of the instruments. I like electric guitar and violins that sing so that it feels as if it will separate my soul from my body. I like ryhythm that forces my body to move of its own volition. I like being amazed that musicians can be so talented and create something so beautiful. And I like humor, double entendre's, and originality.

My favorite foods are pickles, pizza, mexican food, chinese food, and the all time favorite; Nacho cheese doritos with french onion dip. Hmm. Rotel cheese dip is pretty tasty, too.

I don't like mushrooms or black olives. I love dark beer, like Heineken Dark Lager...but I like a good Harp or Wild Blue as well.

The six things I could never do without

Books. Music. Something to think about. The touch of another. Laughter. Stimulating conversation.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How to get through the latest tangle in the skein of life that fate has thrown at me, the nature of humanity, who I am, who I want to be, and who I want to be with.

On a typical Friday night I am

relaxing at home, staying up late watching tv, knowing that I can sleep as late as I want to on Saturday morning. Or doing something completely impulsive, thinking to myself, "What the hell am I doing?"

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I talk in my sleep...and sometimes, on a vacation day, I let the alarm clock go off, just so I can smile, turn it off and fall back into delicious sleep.

You should message me if

you're enough like me to have something to talk about, but different enough that we each take pleasure in learning new things. If your strengths are my weaknesses, and my weaknessess are your strengths. Or, if we just have something in common that you want to chat about.
