My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a nice guy, smart, something of a math geek, something of a music geek. I'm devoted to my family and a very loyal friend. I'm doing well on my own, but do occasionally miss having someone to share a meal and a cuddle on the couch with.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am on a sabbatical leave from a small college, so I have the year off from daily work responsibilities and am using the time to travel, make progress on some longer-term work projects, spend time with family, read for fun, and run or walk most days. It's maybe the best job perk ever, and I appreciate it.

It also means that I'm in Chicago only through some time in June, then moving hundreds of miles away. So I'd be happy to go on a few dates, but anything that ends up long-term will also be long-distance, at least for the foreseeable future.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I've been told I'm funny, although I am quiet at first; I'm a pretty good musician, mostly classical; I'm an excellent babysitter for my 18-month-old nephew; I'm patient; for someone with an almost complete inability to draw, I'm surprisingly good at Pictionary.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Historical fiction, mysteries and thrillers, science-y nonfiction, narrative history, and whatever else happens to come along.

I'm a huge movie fan, everything from The Marx Brothers to Kieslowski's Three Colors to Pixar to The Lord of the Rings to whatever's good at the multiplex.

TV-wise, I tend to go for clever shows that have a distinctive sound to their language (West Wing, Buffy, Firefly, The Wire). No current show has me as entranced.

I'm a big theater fan as well, and just as with TV I tend to favor the clever stuff, Stoppard and Sondheim in particular.

Musically, I'm quite ecumenical about genre, but tend not to pay a whit of attention to the lyrics -- I want good playing/singing, interesting harmonies, and groove.

I have the taste in food of a teenager. I most like pizza, burgers, diner food, americanized Italian and Tex-Mex. That said, I also enjoy sushi, Ethiopian, and Thai quite a bit.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Contact with my family
Something interesting to listen to
People to have fun with
People to make music with
Some occasional alone time
Pizza -- Gotta be shallow about something!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Whether to take chances or play it safe. I tend to go for the latter a lot, but would love to find someone who understands my comfort zones and could help me work on the former.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
(1) Having fun at a concert, play, or game night with friends; or (2) trying to get enough work done that I can do (1) on Saturday night instead.
