I am tall, nerdy, and Californian.

My Self-Summary

Hey there! I like reading, hiking, rafting, and driving (yeah, it's a poor use of a finite resource, I know). I'm a huge history nerd, and try to keep up with foreign affairs. Man, it's so weird writing stuff for a site like this. I mean, the intent of these paragraphs is to promote oneself to others, but actually writing stuff down in an attempt at self-promotion just seems so off. I think deeds speak louder than words unless you're a decent orator. On that note, my favorite presidents are probably FDR, Lincoln, and Jefferson, racism and slave-bangin' aside.

What I’m doing with my life

Currently, I'm a student, doing a bit of work and trying to learn as much as possible as soon as possible, hoping for knowledge to soak in like a sponge and hopefully be available for refining into wisdom at a later date.

I’m really good at

I'm good at carrying heavy loads, random trivia, increasing ambient absurdity, building models, predicting future behavior based on past activities, and camping/outdoor skills.

The first things people usually notice about me

Generally my height, I'm a bit above average. My complete lack of fashion sense is soon noted, and I think people like my smile (kinda a biased reporting, though, it'd be seen as rude for someone to go up to you and say "I've gotta admit, I don't like your smile. You should change it!")

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Hmm. Books? "Guns, Germs, and Steel", "1491", LOTR trilogy, stuff by R.A. Salavtore, instructional manuals with randomly useful information (welding? Yes, please!).
The newest movie I like is "The Hurt Locker", "Star Trek" was also good, but "The Godfather", Sergio Leone's Trilogy, "Pulp Fiction", "Platoon", "Apocalypse Now", "The Maltese Falcon" and about half the other films Humphrey Bogart was in are excellent.
I've got pretty wide musical tastes, from Hayes Carll to The Pogues to Hank Williams to Cake to Bo Diddly and The Ink Spots.
Food? Mexican, Japanese, American, Eastern or Western European food, and Native American food (jerky, piki bread, barbecue)

The six things I could never do without

These lists are kinda funny. I'm always take 'em far too literally. Aside from the stuff needed for human life, I'd say that I get the most use out of my literacy, my body, my Leatherman, and my internet access. Cocoa-powdered almonds are pretty good, too.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My role in the world, my country's role in the world, ethics, whether it is best to be morally correct and perish or survive and compromise one's beliefs, the best ways to both thrive and hold to one's ethics, what it would take for the world to disarm, what the odds would be of an alien attack wiping our planet out because we haven't invested enough money in giant explodey lasers, what can be done to encourage more renewable energy sources, the best way to maintain our earth, the kind of people who get through this wall of text to read this line of text right here without losing interest, etc.

On a typical Friday night I am

Generally studying or avoiding studying, I've not really done much partying.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Hahaha, no. Publically-available to anyone with decent Google-Fu? I'll save that for private conversations.
