My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an academic and love science. I'm sensitive, intelligent, deeply thinking. Also, I find it imperative to forcefully advocate for a better world. My free time is best spent in this pursuit, though not as often as it should.

It would be a lie to say that my interest in the well-being of the world is the most important thing in my life. The most important thing is intimacy.

I'm extremely interested in other places/cultures/languages. A personal dream of mine is to truly be fluent in a second language.

I love to dance whenever I get the opportunity, and I never buy greeting cards that have any writing inside of them.

I spend far too much time reading wikipedia.

And yes, I like to fill my profile with sappy shit.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I am a post-doctoral scholar at UMD in the department of Linguistics. I study the cognitive neuroscience of language, in particular, the structure of sentences. While this may sound mundane, it's one of the most fascinating things that humans do, build sentences. Maybe you think I have a low bar for fascinating, but I don't - building sentences may very well be the foundational creative instinct that humans possess.

I'm involved in activism surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict. There are so many struggles in the world worth fighting and speaking up about; this is the one that I've chosen to put my energy into, reading everything I can about the conflict, writing, protesting.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Picking up new skills
Navigating new places
The first things people usually notice about me

I apparently look/sound like I'm foreign, except I'm entirely native Californian.

Books/Authors: Noam Chomsky, Tolsoy, Dostoyevsky, Phillip K. Dick, Catch-22, 1984, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World

I will read anything well-written with a sci-fi or dystopian bent, hence the Phillip K. Dick. I see that others also appreciate 1984, and think that they must see much of what I see that is insane in the world. And then I learn that they apparently don't, and I am puzzled. Does anyone else have this experience?

Movies: Lawrence of Arabia, the Hustler, Swingers, Alien, PersepolisDr. Strangelove, Is the Man Who is Tall Happy?

Music: Bob Dylan]], [Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Yeasayer, Weezer

Essentially, my musical tastes are a combination of my mother's record collection from the '60s and '70s and some more modern random alternative rock. I do enjoy classical music on occasion.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I'm boycotting this question, out of love for humanity.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The workings of the human mind
How to solve the question of life, the universe, and everything

On a typical Friday night I am

Out at the pub!

Just kidding, reading wikipedia (sometimes at the pub). And also dancing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I once crashed my bike and ruptured, well, my scrotum. Only a superficial scratch, all the machinery's working in its normal manner.
