I'm a person with strong convictions who tries to live his values
and hold myself and others to high standards. I try to never settle
for the easiest or simplest solution to a problem, and when it
comes to my work or hobbies, I strive to challenge myself and
excel. When I make mistakes or let myself down, I try to learn from
them and move on.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm in the Air Force stationed at Davis-Monthan and playing in a
Blues-Rock band in my spare time. If everything goes according to
plan, when I get out of the service I'll be a full-time musician. I
also spend a lot of time cooking, riding my bike, studying for my
degree, listening to music and watching movies.
I’m really good at
I mostly owe my talents in music to my bandmates. I'm a drummer, so
I can't really do it alone. I'm also the main songwriter in the
band and a part-time vocalist. Being around other creative people
brings out the best in me.
I went to culinary school before I joined up and while I doubt I'll
ever try to be a professional chef again, I still cook all the
time; it's therapeutic for me. I even won a basewide Iron Chef
contest once! My favorite things to cook are stir-frys and curries,
and I also love to BBQ and grill.
I'm a pretty avid cyclist, but I still fall firmly in the "amateur"
category. My biggest achievement was completing El Tour De Tucson
2014, a 104-mile ride. I ride solo, usually picking a loop along
some country road and riding for 4-5 hours with an audiobook or
Also I'm pretty good at Mandarin Chinese, but that's more
job-related than hobby-related.
The first things people usually notice about me
I don't really know for sure but some people tell me they notice my
sense of humor is pretty unique; it's really hard to tell when I'm
being sarcastic. Decide for yourself, I guess.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, and I'm a fan of the James
Bond series as well. I like pop-economics stuff like Freakonomics
and Malcolm Gladwell too.
Movies: Spirited Away, Pulp Fiction, and Oldboy.
TV Shows: Boardwalk Empire, Top Gear (UK), Community
Music: Changes a lot but usually newer Indie Rock and Underground
Hip-Hop, and some older Prog stuff
Food: My favorite cuisines are Chinese, Indian, and Mexican, and I
love a good BBQ.
The six things I could never do without
My family: Even though we're scattered across the country, we're
very close. We try to visit often and we all support each
My Friends: They're very supportive of me and my hobbies, and
inspire me to work harder and aim higher. Also they like to come
over and eat all my food.
Music: The right soundtrack can make all the difference in life;
whether you're listening or making it yourself.
Cooking: Most people seem to think of cooking as a chore, but I
look forward to making myself or my friends a nice meal at the end
of a day.
Exercise: I try to work out a bit every day, whether it's a 75-mile
bike ride or just 20 mins of free weights. I'm also a PT leader at
work so I try to set a good example.
Movies: I love going to The Loft and seeing indie and foreign
films, but when I don't feel like going out my living room is
basically a movie theater anyway; instead of a TV I opted for a
120-inch projector setup.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Social Justice-related stuff, Politics, Religion, Basically all the
ways the world is a screwed-up place. I'm a feminist and I believe
strongly in LGBT rights. I also spend plenty of time beating myself
up over every little mistake I've ever made, and worrying about
mistakes I might make in the future. So you know, normal stuff.
On a typical Friday night I am
Working on songwriting or band business, watching a movie, cooking,
hanging out with friends.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm pretty nerdy so be prepared for that if you want to get to know
You should message me if
You think I seem interesting
You like conversations
Your idea of a good time is a chill evening at home with a nice
dinner and a record
