I am epic, absurd, and possibly deranged.
My Self-Summary
I'm a silly, fun-loving girl who fits in better as one of the guys.
I love books, books, and more books--of any type. I talk shit
during movies (and t.v. shows), I punctuate correctly, and I spell
out words in text messages. I believe that puns are both the lowest
and highest form of humor and I have a total weakness for the
absurd.
I have an endless capacity for remembering useless information, and
don't ever intend to stop learning. There's room in my heart for
the utterly logical as well as the metaphysical, but I tend to
think that people who are always talking about either are flaky and
easily-led. I'm outspoken (could you tell?), and my life's mission
is to keep improving myself until I die.
As far as my people skills I'm generous and friendly, loyal, and
tend to be the friend everyone brings their problems to, which I
(not gonna lie) relish. I don't leave compliments unvoiced, but I
do tend not to speak up or cause drama. I'm a cynical optimist, and
interested in the darker side of human experience as well.
What I’m doing with my life
Working on an M.A. in Cultural Anth, mostly interested in the
United States and power exchanges. I'm a humanist, rather than a
feminist.
Other goals include
traveling--anywhere an everywhere. I
just got back from a trip to Europe with my little sister, planning
a trip to Jordan/Egypt next summer and Jamaica for this NYE. I did
a field school in Oaxaca, Mexico a few years ago, and hope to get a
Fulbright Fellowship to Albania after I graduate.
But I'm not the all-academic all the time network. These days I'm
spending time with friends, laughing, doing nothing or doing
something, and I'd like to be a lot more active. There are too many
experiences out there to collect!
I’m really good at
Scrabble and
Dr. Mario. I'm
also into being creative--I paint, draw, write, knit, sculpt,
crochet, build sets, whatever. Jill-of-all-trades, master of none
and so on. I read like a demon and am no mean conversationalist.
I'll probably make you laugh, or else lament your lack of a sense
of humor.
I'd like to think that I'd be invaluable on a desert island, or
during a
zombie apocalypse because of
my varied and adaptable skill sets.
The first things people usually notice about me
My clever t-shirt. After that though, they notice that I'm
ridiculously silly, and will totally sacrifice myself for a good
joke. And I tend to put people at ease.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Can anyone really sum this up? Books--anything and everything. I
love
dystopian novels like Stranger
in A Strange Land and Brave New World, etc. I also love classics,
regular fiction, non-fiction, ethnographies, and...I'll admit it,
romance novels. A few favorites, in addition to the two
above--Pride and Prejudice, Ender's Game, Skye O'Malley, anything
by Chuck Palahniuk or Cormac McCarthy (although his stuff is
usually so bleak it takes me days to recover).
Movies--again, anything and everything. Some favorites are Amelie
(obviously), The Fifth Element, Princess Bride, 28 Days Later,
Society (if you've seen these we HAVE to be friends), Half Baked,
Dazed and Confused, Cecile B. Demented, David Lynch and Stanley
Kubrick flicks. I love that t.v. has come out of its suck-slump,
digging shows like Rome, Dexter and Deadwood, and the old-school
MTV series AEon Flux (most emphatically NOT the movie).
Music--I tend to like rock, alternative, punk. I love classic rock,
ska, and the new folk-type stuff. But I can't say I don't love some
pop. I especially love quirky, intelligent stuff. Bands currently
dominating my iPod: Less Than Jake, Kylie Minogue, The Eagles, and
The Decemberists. My favorite song right now is Touched by
VAST.
As for food, I prefer salty/savory to sweet, but like that too.
Living in San Diego has given me a profound appreciation of Cotixan
food. I will put the hurt on California burrito from Lolita's.
The six things I could never do without
My contacts--SOOOO blind.
My phone--I'm always afraid I'll miss a crisis or a fun activity
when I'm out of touch.
My iPod--she shall have music wherever she goes.
A book. Good for many things.
My sense of humor--it gets me through anything.
A hair tie. I love having long hair, but not so much when it's in
my face.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
People. It's my job, after all. I'm discovering the joy of advanced
theory, but it's time-consuming.
Band names. I'm not in a band, but I have a list several pages
long--usually it's just combinations of words that hit my ear
nicely...the most recent? Elaborate Codpiece--it'd be a 70's-style
glamrock band, of course.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with hilarious friends, reading a great book or
haunting the hookah bar while using them shamelessly for their free
WiFi. Every once in a while I'm kayaking by moonlight or moshing at
a ska show.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I have incredibly vivid and involved dreams. Mostly nightmares.
About zombies.
You should message me if
You have a rapier wit and like to duel with it. Please be smart and
silly, and NOT a creeper. I especially like people who spell out
words completely and engage me in interesting conversation before
propositioning me. And I'm not in the market for a boyfriend, so if
you're looking for the girl of your dreams, it's probably not
me.
By the way, if you're looking for a girl who's super-cool but the
complete opposite of me, check out my friend Stayin_Classy. And
tell her I sent you.
