My self-summary
I need laughing in my life at all times. Luckily, I laugh quite easily, so this has never been an issue for me.
I like kindness and honesty. The world can always use more compassion. I try to give as much love as I can to as many people as possible every day. I routinely strike up conversations with strangers, smile at babies, and will always tell you how wonderful you are.
I do a horrific impression of Christopher Walken, but I love doing it so I do it all the time. I've been told that it sounds more like Bill Cosby. Practice makes perfect!
I'm a sucker for a tall, good looking man. (Who isn't?) Kind eyes melt my heart. Laugh lines are always a plus.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a high school math teacher, and I absolutely adore my job. I'm also constantly expanding my education, and really appreciate that same quality in others. Mostly, I just love the fact that I can come to work and laugh all day. My kids are amazing, and I would really like to meet someone who can appreciate that.
I try to lead a balanced life, but I will say my students end up coming first a lot of the time. However, emotional health is very important to me, so I make sure to take care of myself.
I’m really good at
Making an awkward situation hilarious, forcing people to like me, talking strangers into doing silly things, and smiling! I'm also quite good at witty repertoire and laughing at myself.
The first things people usually notice about me
Hopefully my smile. I teach in a mostly Hispanic school, and the first thing the kids notice is my "colored eyes." In a perfect world you'd notice my genuine enjoyment of life.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I love all books. I lean toward anything psychology related, but I'll read anything that's put in front of me. I used to watch a lot of reality tv, mostly bravo, but I've found I have less time for that now. I adore movies; I am captivated by nearly any story line. Music: I love Daddy Yankee and Gangsta Rap. Blame my students. I will also happily listen to any and all radio stations. (Yes, that means NPR, Christian Rock, Spanish music, etc) Lastly, food. If you notice in that little fact box to the right, I am a vegan. Luckily, I am not a omnivore-hating, meal-ruining one. I try to avoid all dairy, but I'm a sucker for good sushi. I love to cook, and I make a mean vegan brownie. Seriously, you won't be able to taste the difference.
The six things I could never do without
my kindle, my cat, my family, the inexplicably soft blanket that graces my bed, getting to spend all day laughing with a bunch of awesome kids, and... fountain beverages.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
how lucky I am to have a job I absolutely adore, lesson plans, where I can find the best fountain beverage, what would be the best pair of shoes to most easily slide across a linoleum floor, what makes the hot dad that lives down the street from me so much hotter than all normal non-dads, why I continue to attempt yoga, new slang my students have taught me, budgets, and Marvin Gaye.
On a typical Friday night I am
Oh, this is a little embarrassing! I usually take a nap on Friday afternoon when I get home from school. Then I figure out what everyone is doing and go from there. If I'm still tired after naptime, then I hit the grocery store, make dinner, and go to bed early.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm in a perpetual state of worry that my students will make a seemingly innocuous statement into a double entendre, and mock me mercilessly. Just the other day, while we were cutting paper into strips, I told them,"I'm not worried about the length. What I'm most concerned about at this point is width." My students made me take 5 minutes of quiet time to reflect on what I had said.
