I am futuristic, sincere, and feisty.
My Self-Summary
I'm a dog person. I recently started accordion lessons. I have a
good relationship with my family. I'm less conservative and
traditional compared to the average Texan. I listen to a lot of
NPR. I feel like my life is pretty good right now, I have a job I'm
pretty excited to have. I've been pretty facinated with all things
Mexican since I was a kid, I went and lived there for a couple of
years and I have started to think about moving back. I'm definitely
not religious. I think all things can be explained through science.
I want to learn how to sew better, take African dance classes
again, learn how to dance this really fast type of cumbia,
volunteer as a translator so that I can become a certified
translator. I feel like there are so many possibilities of things
that I can pursue.
What I’m doing with my life
I do visual for a "luxury" store; I dress mannequins, paint, build,
take down, and put up displays. This is exactly what I want to do.
I started out doing graphic design, and didn't want to keep going
with it, so making a successful career change was work and I gained
confidence from making it happen for myself.
I’m really good at
Blech. This is so much like interviewing for jobs--the way that you
have to advertise yourself. I like languages, but I don't think
I'll learn another to the extent that I've learned Spanish just
because part of what motivates me is that it's also very useful to
me. But I dream about travelling and studying those languages so
that I could put them into practice even if it was kind of touristy
stuff.
Being inventive and creating work that is current at my job is
important to me.
The first things people usually notice about me
I smile a lot.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
My favorite book is Brownsville, it's a book of short stories about
the people that straddle Mexican and American culture on the Texas
border. I love funky food like natto, kefir and moldy cheese. Miss
quesadillas from Mexico City. I like a lot of different songs. Some
by The Magnetic Fields, Joni Mitchell, and Maria Daniela y su
Sonido Laser to name a few. But mostly I just listen to 90.1 and
public radio station podcasts. I listen to a lot more Norteño music
now since I've been taking accordion. I love The Soup.
The six things I could never do without
1. The Internet
2. Coffee
3. Peace and quiet
4. NPR/Podcasts
5. Running water
6. My esthetician
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Food and sex and all the things I want to pursue and Mexico, always
Mexico.
On a typical Friday night I am
Sometimes I need to give myself a little push to get out, home is
tiny, tiny but it's cozy. So I do get out, at least once or twice a
week, I'm always glad I did--pretty typical stuff, Lee Harvey's or
Double Wide, something like that.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I'm better about keeping other people's secrets than my own. That's
not really private, but I'm a pretty open book.
