My self-summary
I moved to the Bay from Texas about 4 months ago. No driving reason in particular; it just felt time to move around a little. It's nice here, and I feel like it was the right decision and I'm growing, but I do miss Texas often. No one here knows how to two step. It's tragic really. I consider myself funny and thoughtful. I can be very outgoing and friendly, but I value my space and distance. I love to read and have long and challenging conversations. People are constantly teaching me, and for that I'm very grateful.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm currently working full time as an ironworker, fabricating and erecting structural steel. It's an incredibly fun, if challenging job. I also work with a prison abolition group called Critical Resistance. I'm involved with a program that works to distribute political and organizational literature to people who are currently incarcerated. I've been in the Bay for about 4 months or so, so I'm currently taking a semester off from school before I go back next semester to continue to pursue my studies in Economics. I'm keeping myself busy, however, by studying Economics anyway.
I’m really good at
public speaking, cooking spicy sea scallops on a vegetable rice pilaf, reading poetry (but not so much at writing it), revolutionary theory, and dry and cynical humor,
The first things people usually notice about me
People seems surprised at how tall I am, though I'm not particularly tall. Also, the police report said that I have "almond shaped eyes." I was flattered.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books/Authors: Ham on Rye by Bukowski, Golden Gulags by Ruth Wilson Gilmore, anything written by George Orwell, Kindred by Octavia Butler, Reading Capital Politically by Harry Cleaver, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Calvin and Hobbes, Marx, e. e. cummings, Pablo Neruda

Movies: Where Soldiers Come From, Restrepo, 50/50, The Battle of Algiers, Anchorman, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, No Country For Old Men, Pulp Fiction.

Music: William Elliot Whitmore, The Tallest Man on Earth, The Steeldrivers, Tupac, Nas, Jay-z, George Strait, Azalea Banks, Joey Bada$$, Ibrahim Ferrer, Elton John, Dead Kennedys, Rage Against the Machine, Al Green, Aesop Rock, Wu Tang, Atmosphere, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, Hector Lavoe, Patsy Cline, Too $hort.
The six things I could never do without
-Books, mainly of the revolutionary variety but literary too.
-Music of a multifarious variety
-My family, which is cheeseball but true

That's really it. I've been in situations where I've had much less than that and I've been ok. You'd be surprised what seems critical now can actually seem silly under other circumstance.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
the relationship between practical activity and critical consciousness, how much I miss sitting in a lawn chair in my front yard when I lived in the middle of nowhere and searching for a sense of comfort in the absolute insignificance I felt staring at the stars, where I'll live after I bounce from the Bay.
On a typical Friday night I am
Travelling to Oakland to have some drinks and discuss the terrible state of affairs in the world today and what we can do about it. Also, dancing.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have an unpleasant phobia of honeybees from watching "My Girl" when I was young. I'm still haunted by that scene...
