Witty, Candid, and Sensual
My self-summary Propose an edit
I am a bundle of contradictions.
I'm an old-fashioned school marm who isn't old fashioned in the
slightest.
I'm an English teacher who is obsessed with
punctuation, yet I can't spell my way out of a wet paper bag.
I'm an adventurer who is a bit shy.
I'm realistic yet imaginative.
I'm an embittered romantic.
I'm geeky, but I don't know how to code nor can I fix your
computer.
I want to drink life to the lees. I have hedonistic tendencies. I
like Buffy to Battlestar, Bluegrass to Britney to Bebop, and
bacchanals to balminess. I also adore alliteration.
Mostly, I enjoy being with and supporting my friends-- they truly
are my chosen family.
I enjoy the three "m's": music, movies, and museums and I also
enjoy the "t's": theatre and television. I love strange
juxtapositions: Joss Whedon's Firefly suited me down to the ground
with its combo of old west and sci-fi. I'm a sucker for interesting
characters, especially in books and dramas. People fascinate
me.
I enjoy traveling as much as I can (love
London, Spain, Mallorca, and Venice with Greece in 2008), but I'm also
quite content to spend a snow day under my flannel sheets escaping into
fantasy with a good book. I read quite a bit, so I can sometimes
get caught up in my head.
My friends say that my sense of humor is my best quality, but it's
difficult to let that show through without someone to play it off.
If any of the above sound interesting, do send me a message and I
promise to be witty and perhaps even charming.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
I'm a teacher of 9th grade English and journalism. Quite a bit of
my life seems to be taken up by advising the school newspaper; but
I love it so it doesn't feel much like work.
I'm also working on a journey of self-discovery, which I promise
isn't as new-agey as it sounds. I want to get better at making
connections and learning to open myself up to other people more. I
can give in abundance, but I want to learn how to let others see
inside my heart.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Caring for people and knowing what they need, finding the humor in
almost any situation, cooking/entertaining, and knowing
completely useless trivia (I'm an expert at six degrees of
Kevin Bacon).
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
The sparkle in my eyes, the quiet quip that causes a guffaw, and my
tendency to talk with my hands. Oh yeah, and prolly the cleavage.
I'll just quote my beloved Seinfeld on the topic, "They're real,
and they're spectacular."
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Books: anything by David Sedaris, Judith Merkle Riley,
Tanya Huff, Jennifer Weiner, Sarah Vowell,
Charles
DeLint, Louisa May Alcott, Tamora Pierce, Sharon Shinn, Homer, the list
goes on... I'm also fond of the folowing genres: fantasy,
historical fiction, chick lit (shhhh! don't tell), "literary"
fiction, and a smattering of romance and sci-fi.
Movies: anything by the Cohen Brothers, School of Rock, Star Wars,
Tombstone, Bring It On, Princess Bride, If Lucy Fell, 10 Things I
Hate About You, About a Boy, A Christmas Story
Music: Currently on heavy rotation: Ozomatli, Seven Nations, Matisyahu, Steel
Dragon, Del McCoury, Jet, The Darkness, Gypsy Kings,
Django
Reinhardt, Regina Spektor, KT Tunstall, the list goes on... I'm
a big fan of 80s music (especially hair metal), bluegrass,
folk/acoustic, quirky (They Might Be Giants, Barenaked Ladies,
etc.), rock, old time, even a little bit of pop (I'm bringing sexy
back...)
Foods: Anything new and exciting. Italian, Chinese, Thai, Ethopian,
medeteranian, curry..... whatever. I especially love small plate
restaurants, since you get to try dynamic flavor combinations. I'm
working on expanding my wine palate... if you know anything about
wines, I'm all ears. I'm also a carboholic and cheese weasel.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
In no particular order...
1. Red pens
2. Friends (adventures don't feel real unless you have people you
love to share them with)
3. Books (let's put it this way, I always keep a book in the car
for things like waiting in line for the bank drive-thru,
etc.)
4. Cheese
5. Technology (ipod, laptop/internet, dvd player/netflix, indoor
plumbing, etc.)
6. the First Amendment (hey, I'm a journalism teacher, what do you
expect?)
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
How to be a better teacher.
If I'm going to get pulled over for speeding.
Ways I can make myself happy.
How my friends are doing and how I can help them.
How did I get here and what am I doing in this handbasket?
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Recovering from the week either by watching some Buffy, having
dinner with friends, or (if I've had a disco nap) seeing some live
music.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I snore, and according to my best friend, breathe-right strips only
put a dent in it.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You're a deep sleeper (see above).
You're willing to take a chance on a chick who most likely lives at
least an hour away from you (hey, I enjoy driving and
Charlottesville seems to only have transient grad students).
You want to have an intelligent discussion on just about anything
or you need an ear to listen. I love meeting new people and
learning about their lives.
Super extra bonus points awarded if you can identify either or both
of the following quotations.
"At times, indeed, almost ridiculous
Almost, at times, the Fool."
and
"She was a vixen when she went to school.
and though she be but little, she is fierce."
