Former Californian who is readjusting to life on the other coast.
I'm a bit of a serial hobbyist and I'm constantly on the lookout for new things to try. A few of these hobbies include skateboarding, slacklining , running, and weight lifting. My real passion though is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which if you don't know is kind of like wrestling (the kind done in college, not the kind done by The Rock) but in pajamas.
I'm a pretty big nerd and have checked off most of the boxes on the "Are you a nerd" list. The last big thing left is LARPing and honestly some things are best left alone.
What I’m doing with my life
Currently I'm working as an engineer in the satellite division of an aerospace company. I spend a lot of time wrestling excel, running experiments, and trying to look like I know what I am doing. Occasionally I help build things that go into space, so that's pretty cool.
I’m really good at
Locking myself out of places. My current record for apartment lock outs is 3 times in a single day (2 of those were within an hour of themselves). Previous 2014 stats are 4 apartment lockouts and 1 car lockout, which is a great year for me.
The first things people usually notice about me
I tend to talk with my hands, which can be a problem since I have a poor sense of where my body is in space. I may have accidentally punched a stranger in the face while gesturing during a story.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: 1984 (1984 > Brave New World), Devil in the White City, The New York Trilogy, Hot Zone, Y: The Last Man, Preacher. Current Book: If on a Winter Night a Traveler.
TV Shows: I'm a big fan if Joss Whedon shows., Hannibal (criminally underrated), Top Gear (the UK version), Rick and Morty, and True Detective.
Movies: The Muppets (it is a fact that everything is better with Muppets), Pulp Fiction, Hot Fuzz, and The Thing.
Music: I can listen to The Strokes and RHCP on repeat forever. The Velvet Underground, Arctic Monkeys, and BRMC are amazing.
Podcasts/radio: I love Plant Money, Radio Lab, Serial and This American Life. If I could have one superfluous wish it would be for Ira Glass to narrate my life.
Food: I'll happily eat anything (well almost anything), but nothing beats a good burrito or a plate of unagi. Also if Kogi ever branches out to DC I would get fat.
The six things I could never do without
1. MP3 Player (soundtrack for life)
2. A huge backlog of books
3. Some game to play (Board games!)
4. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Judo
5. Coffee (how I got through grad school)
6. New topics to obsess over
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I cannot open a banana without a knife.
You should message me if
You can teach me how to pick out avocados or pineapples. I seem to have a knack at picking out semi rotten fruit (worst skill ever).
