My self-summary
Disclaimer: I'm too wrapped up in academics to be too serious on this site. Also, I'm on here primarily because I'm on a site that posts fun OKCupid quizzes a lot. As such, I'm not really on this site.

I'm a 21 year old working on my math degree. Having been an accidental math major, I'm interested in Latin, foreign languages, literature, music, history, psychology (particularly developmental, social and personality psychology. I can talk about the latter forever), physics and philosophy. I'm definitely the jack of all trades and master of none. I also have a hard time deciding if I'm an Algebra or Analysis person because that's apparently an important typology in math. I'm going with Analysis for now.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm just trying to get by school and life reasonably successfully. So far, so good. I go to school, I play the piano, flute and violin. Learning German. Trying to get good at Karate. Learning about vintage and period fashion (I can smell Ren Faire in my future...). Read quite a lot. And I procrastinate. Mostly procrastinate.

I'm currently on track to apply to graduate school in mathematics, but it's yet unclear whether I'll follow through with it. I want to live in Germany for a while. Having lived there twice and lived abroad a lot I can safely say I love the country above all others. And being a Third Culture Kid, living abroad, traveling and getting to know foreign cultures is in my blood.
I’m really good at
Philosophy, physics, literature, being a pompous Wikipedian know-it-all, piano, flute, languages, long distance running, wasting time, being absurd. I can't tell if I'm ACTUALLY good at math. I try not to think about that too much.

I think it's only fair to say what I'm really bad at: Video games, board games, sports, being practical, socializing in big groups, giving presentations. I really wish I were good at Chess. I also have never solved the Rubik's cube.
The first things people usually notice about me
Who knows. People tell me different, mutually exclusive things about me, and I tend to believe yet another version of what people notice about me. I try not to think about it too much. I try to look presentable in my dress and approachable in my behavior, but that's not really my place to judge.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Hamlet, A Tale of Two Cities, The Brothers Karamazov, Notes from Underground, Crime and Punishment, A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again

Movies: 12 Angry Men (1957), Hamlet (1996), Star Wars: ROTJ, Mononoke-hime

Shows: Avatar, Sherlock, Rome (HBO), A Game of Thrones, The Blue Planet, Band of Brothers, Digimon (I'll never get over this one, no matter how old I get. I can hear you snickering already), Bleach (it's a book/manga depending on how you look at it...)

Music: Rock/Prog Metal; Symphony X is my guilty pleasure; Dream Theater is my longtime love. Soundtrack (lots. Especially Joe Hisaishi), Gustav Mahler, Ludwig van Beethoven, Igor Stravinsky, Sergei Prokofiev, Dmitri Shostakovich, Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn, Richard Wagner, Leonard Bernstein. Recently I've been partial to: MENDELSSOHN! Such a happy man.

Food: Bread pudding, avocado, sushi, Canto food (I'm from Hong Kong after all)
The six things I could never do without
My computer.
My books. (is that cheating?)
Music
Some money.
Something to write with, preferably my fountain pen. Did I tell you I have an obsession with vintage fountain pens?
My phone.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Post-modern philosophy, ramifications of widespread nihilism, psychology, mathematics (because I sort of have to), music, food, where my life is heading.

When I'm not thinking about something grand or profound (which is most of the time- don't want to unwittingly give off the impression that I'm just bursting with wisdom, or something), I think about how the hell I'm going to get through the day. A useful thing to think about, really, and not at all obvious what the answer should be.
On a typical Friday night I am
Reading, practicing piano, watching movies, listening to music, spacing out, catching up on sleep, hanging out with friends,
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
If I'm willing, then you can find it up there ^. It's it's not up there, I'm not willing.
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 18–50
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends
You should message me if
If you see something on this profile you really relate to. Otherwise, I'm not that active and due to my busy school life I'm very reluctant to leave Northfield when school is in session. You have been warned :)
