My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm a work in progress, learning from life experiences, learning to make choices from a place of love.
I'm on this site because I'm looking for a partner, for a long term committed relationship. It's also nice to meet new friends along the way (particularly if you like to dance).
The most important quality in a partner, for me, is an active interest in deepening and growing. Dancing is optional.
Though I enjoy people and gatherings, I'm a bit of an introvert by nature.
I feel complete. I hope you do too. From that space, it feels exciting and challenging to relinquish singleton autonomy for intimate partnership.
In addition to the shared joy and fun and affection and play and work, we're going to disagree sometimes. And, we're both going to make mistakes. I see those pieces, and how we respond to them as help for us to blossom and deepen our roots. Yes, I'm saying that the manure is fertilizer, if we choose to use it that way.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
My life is all about deepening relationship with What Lives Everything. And, I resist that and surrender to it and resist and surrender. It's the root of my work, my play, and a lot more fun than it reads.
I enjoy nature and photographing it. Crafts & art are fun, from jewelry making to doodling. I volunteer regularly at a nature sanctuary/retreat center. I like helping my friends create business cards and fliers. I appreciate animals, the arts, good health (and supporting it with healthy eating and movement).
Exploring new places is fun. Actually so is exploring old places. A few of my faves are the DIA, the Henry Ford, Niagara Falls (my home town), Toronto. Road trips are my favorite.
I have a quirky sense of humor (ask me about The Music of Pythagoras).
I like antiquing, especially tableware, linens, vintage clothing, accessories & jewelry. I'm in a non-acquisition mode, actually divesting. Still, I love to look.
Water is awesome. I am fond of swimming, canoeing, rowing, sailing and am not an expert.
By day, I'm a QA Specialist in a medical reference lab. I do/teach animal communication. I'm a Reiki master.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm really good at making kale chips, cooking in general, simplifying the complicated, listening, being present, owning my faults, and following my intuition.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I only know what they tell me they notice. It's a tie between my smile and my eyes. Comments have been favorable.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: I like non-fiction (The Great Influenza, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Malcolm Gladwell). Very fond of Steinbeck. I enjoy southern authors (Capote, Harper Lee, Reynolds Price), classics, teen lit fantasy (Eragon, His Dark Materials). I can toss back a formula mystery/thriller/romance on occasion too.
Movies: Love 'em. Departures, Rio Bravo, Jodhaa Akbar, Pootie Tang, Ip Man, Casablanca, The Godfather, Singin' in the Rain, Juno. I only get to the movie theater twice a year, would like to double or even triple that.
Shows: Downton Abbey, The IT Crowd, Dick Van Dyke, Doc Martin. I don't connect with reality shows.
Music: I've been kinda stuck in the 40's through 80's, am moving into present day (would appreciate recommendations). I like rock, blues, folk, classical, swing, opera, Motown, bluegrass, list goes on. I am partial to guitar music, Skydog is a favorite, as is SRV.
Food: eclectic (O tempura! O s'mores!), moderately spicy is nice. Indian is tasty, as is most Asian cuisine. I eat a mammal free diet, enjoy vegetarian meals,. I don't often eat highly processed foods. I try to eat organic. I enjoy locally grown/produced food. And, I allow a little wiggle room in there for an "unhealthy" treat now & then....like frozen custard. I believe healthy diet varies from person to person.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
air for breathing, water for drinking and bathing, produce for nourishing my form, nature for nourishing my heart, the Light to nourish my being, creative expression to give back.
My attachments in descending order:
Spiritual practice/family.
My cat & my dog.
A creative outlet.
Silliness/laughter - but not at anyone's expense.
Music - listening, playing/singing (happily but not necessarily well).
Good coffee.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Am I interested in Oneness in this moment?
What can I learn from this experience?
What's something fun &/or new I can explore today?
My partner, whoever you are, wherever you are. Am I open and available to you?
A small sustainable home - leaning toward straw bale, but the jury's not in. I'm also interested in a small, natural home community. Just an exploration at this point.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hmmmmm... swing dancing is my first choice. But I might choose gazing at the stars and bats and fireflies, a walk in the park, dinner out with friends, live music, or a movie. Getting in several hours on a road trip is fun, especially with great company & a good playlist. A night in is nice too.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
If we meet, and you want to know something private right away, ask me about "the night of bats and kittens".
In the mean time:
The toaster strudel boy is scarier than 5 evil clowns.
I wonder about a possible ulterior motive behind Lumosity.
Despite these things, I am an optimist who has true hope for humanity.
