My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I think what I make says more about me than what I could write
here. I have a site that stitches together a lot of what I've done over the last few years. I've made special effects for films (specifically these ones), educational tools for young tinkerers, low cost versions of high tech gadgets, and recently a fleet of squishy robots.

I refuse to be bored. My life revolves around getting things done, making big art, and stubbornly trying to cram stuff into my brain.

I love road trips, unsettling honesty, talking while walking, and
braingasms.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
My life has kind of come into focus recently. Right now I'm working with some awesome people making brand new tools for hand made things that have drifted out of the world. This involves a lot of digital prototyping and 3d printing all poured into these super old world crafts. It's a lot of fun.

This supports the side project that's steadily been taking over my life. I've been working on ways to make super cheap, durable soft robots for doing stuff like helping stroke victims control their arms with little slip-on pneumatic cuffs. I'm also poking at orthotics and prosthetics. It's really exciting, even though things are still in a super early stage.

I also admire and envy hackers tremendously. I secretly wish I were Hiro Protagonist.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I like being over the top from time to time. It's interesting seeing how people react to strange hair and dressing up. I like wearing fancy suits, know how to tie a Windsor by rote, and am not afraid to wield Aqua Net with deadly force.

When I'm dressing down, I suppose it would be my voice. I've got this little bit of radio announcer in me.

I listen to a lot of books on tape, but that sounds lame so I'll say I'm into Super Reading. Through Super Reading I've polished off all of Pratchett and Lovecraft and am making substantial headway on Gaiman though the man keeps crossing me by publishing more books. I'm also obsessed with the Great Courses series.

I'm very fond of Guns, Germs, and Steel, Snowcrash, Surely You're Joking, Dr. Feynman, Redshirts, Sex at Dawn, The Red Queen, and The Lemony Snicket series (especially as read by Tim Curry). I'll also devour anything by Asimov, Sagan, Bradbury, Dahl, or Clarke.

I don't catch movies too often, unless getting together with some folks to watch horrible flicks and rip on them over drinks. I remember loving Ghostbusters, Let the Right One In, the Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Life of Brian, Seven Samurai, The Dark Knight, The 5th Element, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (I've got a bit of a crush on Gary Oldman). I also watch a bunch of Mythbusters, Top Gear, Good Eats, How It's Made, and MST3k. I'm also addicted to a few youtube channels, specifically GameGrumps, Ashens, Cooking with Dog, and Foodwishes.

Music comes and goes. I'll listen to a few songs on repeat for a week, and then drop them almost as though they were hot. Amanda Palmer, Mystery Skulls, Tettix, Clams Casino and Matthew Dear are on my playlist at the moment.

I love cooking for friends. I'm usually happier to shop for odd ingredients and make an event out of it than go out, but I have this weakness for sushi. I don't think I can say no to it. Ever.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Urban Spelunking - I like finding and poking around old abandoned things. Structures get so many cool layers when they're left to rot. You find evidence of what people cared to take out of them, what happens when all the materials break down, and what those marginal places get used for once they fall off the grid.

Machines - My life revolves around machines these days. I'm relying on lasers to cut things and printers to build things. I'm in the subway every day and on a train crossing state lines every couple of weeks.

Sunglasses - I'm pretty much blind when outside without sunglasses. True story.

Laptop - Yup. I'm one of those people who are part laptop.

Boots - I've got a few pairs of boots and am pretty much always eyeing another set. It's not a problem yet but it could easily get out of hand if left unchecked.

Bike - I inherited my mom's road bike something like ten years ago. It's now my main mode of transportation around town and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Designs. I love thinking about every detail of a new scheme or mechanism. It's become part of the fabric of my life to sit back and try to work out how something can go together before putting those ideas together in CAD.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
My life's getting a bit crowded with projects these days. I'm either in the city irresponsibly throwing away fliff on fruity drinks, or in the workshop until dawn.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have obscure but entertaining kinks.

You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
Just message me. Seriously. Make it interesting. Say what's on your mind. If you were hit with a fleeting fancy while reading all this stuff pass it on.

If you could introduce me to bars that are small, colorful, and quiet enough to have a good conversation in, tiny restaurants, and abandoned things to photograph I would be sincerely grateful.

I know you're a fascinating person and even if our love isn't destined to be written across the stars in gossamer teardrops I'm sure we could have a drink and chat about life someplace wonderful.
