My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Those who know me well would say I'm pretty easy to be around. I tend to pick my battles, give people the benefit of the doubt, and generally try to avoid unnecessary strife and stress. Life is complicated enough without any help from me :-)

My homemade apple pie is fantastic. This has been confirmed by friends of mine who don't actually like fruit pies (yes, apparently this is a thing that happens - who knew?).

I haven't traveled as much as I'd like to, so I'm working on that with a goal of doing some kind of international trip every year. A couple of years ago I went to Buenos Aires to visit a friend and dance tango. More recently my best friend and I took a friendship anniversary trip to the Canary Islands, which was pretty awesome. Now to figure out a plan for this year....

I try to be a positive force in the lives of the people I care about, and I look for the same in return. I like to think of love as life's most effective secret weapon.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I work on the consulting side of a local tech research firm... trying to strike a balance between earning a living and enjoying it.

Over the last 4-5 years I've spent a lot of time dancing and DJing Argentine tango, but I've decided to take a break from that to focus attention on other things I enjoy or want to learn more about. Things like music, cooking, travel, my long neglected French skills... Recently I've started learning to swing dance, and bought a harmonica that I will hopefully make sound like something other than a wounded animal one day...

Being active and fit is important to me; my latest goal in the gym is to do a respectable set of pull-ups. Just managed my first one recently, which excited me a bit more than most people would probably consider reasonable :-)

But, lest you think I'm some kind of fitness robot who will judge you for eating anything other than kale and egg whites, I should also mention I love good food/drink and am not afraid to indulge. I suppose you could look at this either as healthy moderation or a friendly acquaintance with the devil on my left shoulder :-)
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Breathing on the phone when a friend just really needs someone to be there. Being outwardly gracious to obnoxious clients while inwardly thinking not-so-gracious thoughts. Baking (eating?) german chocolate cake. Writing tactful emails in delicate situations.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've been told I can come across as somewhat prim/proper/prudish at first. Usually I'm told this by someone who now knows me well, and finds the idea ridiculous.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Food: I love it and am always up for trying something new. Particular favorites include Thai, Indian, & Turkish.

TV: I don't really watch it unless I'm traveling for which case I shamelessly marathon horrible reality shows and those ever-present Law & Order reruns while I check email.

Music: I'm pretty open to anything that is either danceable, singable, emotionally compelling, or some combination thereof, which makes for a pretty random variety. I have quite a bit of Tango music from the 30s and 40s - a holdover from my DJ days. Love blues/swing but don't know much about it just yet, so I'm trying to expand my horizons there. I enjoy classical as well but would rather listen live than to a recording (actually, this goes for pretty much any kind of music).

Books: Theories about what makes people dynamics...random fiction. Though sadly most of my reading of late has been work related; I'll spare you the details unless you have a desperate desire to learn about ITIL and IT service management.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Decent speakers/headphones, brunch, comfortable shoes, exercise, hot showers, time to think.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Whether the produce I meant to eat last week but didn't is still feasible for use in tonight's dinner.

How I can get assigned to work projects that will involve a free trip to someplace more interesting than, say, Cincinnati.

Whether "having it all" is really all that appealing.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Meeting up with friends for dinner/drinks/music, or crashing at home with takeout and a movie at the end of a long week.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I ignore messages received from total strangers on the internet who address me as "baby."

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're a kind and reasonably well-adjusted person, and attracted to the same.

You have interests/hobbies you love and would like to share, or feel like trying something new, just because.

You're into the "find someone to enjoy life with" thing; but not so much the "have 2.3 kids and move to the suburbs" thing.
