amiable, really short, and not a murderer

My self-summary Propose an edit

I'm a scientist--when I go to work, I put on a lab coat and latex gloves and run experiments. This makes me a nerd. I also work in the comic book industry--at night and on the weekends I change into pajama pants and freelance edit translations of comics and pulpy novels for a few different Japanese comic book companies. This makes me a geek. I have all my not-cool bases covered.

Also, I'm extroverted. The little icon things lie. And I think I'm pretty spontaneous, too, but I think OkCupid equates "spontaneous" with "stupid." Being spontaneous isn't inherently stupid! Why is OkCupid so hurtful?

What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit

I'm a biochemist, so I try to make the world a better place through working in a hospital lab. This is partially to counter some of the comics I've been assigned to edit, since they're so bad I'm convinced they make the world a WORSE place.

In my free time I hang out with friends, play video games, watch movies, wander around town, try all sorts of foreign foods, read comic books, and GM story-heavy and girl-friendly tabletop RPGs. *nerd alert noise* I'm so social that the year I moved to Toronto, almost every new friend I made flunked out of school because s/he was too busy partying with me. I consider this a badge of pride/shame.

I'm really good at Propose an edit

Bad puns and partying, which often go together.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit

Um...I'm pretty amiable, I think. I like being social. I'm also pretty crude with the swearing and the awful stories and such, but that's only because I live a super straight-edge lifestyle and I have to get my sketchy frustrations out somehow. I've been mistaken for a murderer twice because I like to wear hoodies with the hood up if I'm having a bad hair day, and hooded people look like murderers.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit

Book: The Black Cauldron by Lloyd Alexander

Movie: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (don't laugh--Azeem made me feel better about being a Muslim when I was a kid)

Music: Punk and Rock, especially The Living End, Hot Hot Heat, The Offspring, and Less Than Jake

Foods: I'll eat almost anything but pork and onions, but I especially love pad thai, sushi, and pizza. It's also fun to eat food that's almost gone bad to see if I get sick or not. I call it "Xtreme Eating."

The six things I could never do without Propose an edit

1.) My best friend (also my roommate) 2.) My close other friends/family 3.) My computer, which I named Snow Queen, even though she runs pretty hot 4.) Internet access 5.) The sick, sick 32-inch HD TV I got recently that is 100% awesome and makes me look richer than I am 6.) Manga

I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit

Civil duty, feminism, medicine, and other things that make me feel like I'm exercising my brain while being an active part of the world. I like to debate these things with others because that's the only way I'll hear other opinions and clarify my own. Also, unicorns, because they are HORSES with PINK HAIR and GLITTERY HORNS that LOVE LITTLE GIRLS. All girls spend a fair chunk of their lives thinking about how awesome it would be to have a unicorn. I wrote a song about a unicorn when I was six. It was terrible.

On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit

Hanging out with my best friend, walking around town, the occasional party...although I usually do parties on Saturday nights. Friday nights are often reserved for HARDCORE WATCHING OF DVDS FROM THE COUCH.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit

I'm a practicing Muslim of an immigrant father, born and raised in the West. The culture clash is REALLY hard sometimes, and I've had to get used to dealing with it alone. I do honestly think it's made me a stronger person, but just because you love your faith doesn't mean it can't make your life really hard at times.
