My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm just looking for someone to jump the shark with.

I'd like to be a better person.
(I don't really want to be a better person anymore. I'm okay with who I am now.)

I was trying to just leave that and be indie, but apparently that isn't going to fly with OKCupid.(True)
(I've somehow transcended being indie.(I don't really know what that means, but it sounds pretentious, sorry.(It's okay.)))

I like quoting Frisky Dingo, Sealab 2021 and The Venture Bros. (I mostly quote podcasts these days.)
I aspire to be more like Xander Crews. (False)
I wish in my childhood I'd been more like Brendon Small. (False)
I don't plan on going to law school, but if I did I think I'd be as good a lawyer as Harvey Birdman. (True)

I'm a pretty quiet guy.
I'm not very good at approaching people because I don't have much to say to someone I've never met. (This isn't to say I'm quiet all the time. In fact, there's both a dramatic difference and similarity to the quietness of the me that originally started this profile.) (Although this is still true, I work through it because it's part of my job.)

There are some things that I like; they might also be some of the things that you like. (True)
Wouldn't that be cool? (Yeah, it probably would be. (True))

I really like tattoos (only have a few) and books (read quite a few).
(^My idea of romance is two people sitting in a room quietly reading together.)

I am ¯\(º_o)/¯, bashful, and ಠ_ಠ
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm an editor and a writer of various sorts. I was doing that in South Korea but moved back to Houston due to some reasons. Now it's time to be jet lagged (not so much anymore), reevaluate my decision-making process (constantly), and figure out where to go next (It's a process.).

Right now, I freelance a couple monthly arts columns for Free Press Houston and Arts+Culture TX and am also a communications/marketing person at an arts non-profit in Third Ward.

Oh also, I'm part of a curatorial group who puts together pop-up exhibitions, artist talks, and other super fun events around town.

Also also grad school
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Looking for love in all the wrong places
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
The first things people notice about me are that I have a beard and I'm pretty quiet. I assume so at least. I've never been another person, so I can't really say. Unless you believe in reincarnation, then I have been another person; I don't believe in it, though, so I haven't. But, that's something we can discuss later.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
My favorite movies are mostly good movies and bad action movies. Die Hard, Fantastic Mr Fox, Run Fat Boy Run, Robocop, Re-Animator (all of them), Braindead, Star Wars (at least half of them), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Good Burger, Surviving the Game, Meatball Machine, The Cabin in the Woods. Also, Jackie Chan movies.

PS: Why do girls hate horror movies? (That was more of a thing when I lived in Asia - not so much here.)

With regards to television: Bob's Burgers, 30 Rock, Archer, The Mighty Boosh, Sealab 2021, The Venture Bros., Daria, Meerkat Manor, Peep Show, Upright Citizens Brigade, Batman the Animated Series.

At the moment I'm not reading as much as I should be. I was reading one of the later Song of Ice and Fire books, but it's better to stop every now and then. Also, my kindle died, and I can't be bothered to recharge it right now.
Murakami always puts me in a good, if not strange, mood. One of my favorites is The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle. Ender's Game, 1984, Spring Snow, Diary of a Mad Old Man, and Norwegian Wood are also some greats.

The music that I listen to varies because I'm less of an ass about than in the past (not a lot less, but still): Freelance Whales, Chromeo, Passion Pit, M. Ward, and other things. I especially love Thao Nguyen (of Thao and the Get Down Stay Down) because she's amazingly talented, a wonderful lyricist, beautiful, and all-in-all a lovely person. Bright Eyes will always have a place in my heart. (It's the sad teen part.)

Food is pretty good. I'm doing vegetarian things for the time being. It wasn't so easy in Korea, but it was good nonetheless and is easier here.

Here are some podcasts that might be referenced if we meet.
Comedy Bang Bang, Professor Blastoff, This American Life, Doug Loves Movies, You Made It Weird, The Thrilling Adventure Hour, Indoor Kids, and so on.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My macbook, regular books, people, places, things, events!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
It's more daydreaming than thinking. (In the arts, daydreaming is called being a visionary.)

Does my profile need more hashtags?

My friend works at Pondicheri and says there's a plastic surgeon who lives in the building. He regularly orders coffee to pick up and then has food delivered to his wife, but no one has seen her because whenever someone takes the food up, there's just a note that says to leave the food by the door. Here are some scenarios I think about:
- The plastic surgeon and his wife are the same person.
- The plastic surgeon's wife is a former patient of his... the only surgery he's ever botched. He felt so guilty that he married her and is constantly performing experimental surgery on her in the apartment to fix his mistake.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?

The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
There are parts of my profile that haven't been updated since around 2008, but they still hold up (unless there are parentheses correcting it).

Things I wanna do with a lady:
Read near each other in silence
Yoga in the backyard
Sit on the floor and chant in unison
A spell
Play (or watch each other play) video games
Exist in a park
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
There's the option of not messaging me. That's a valid choice, but think about this: If you've been reading my profile and your senses have been stimulated, there's probably a reason for that. Maybe you think I'm a cute guy. Maybe you think we'd be good friends. Maybe you think we'd be more than good friends. (Maybe you've just enjoyed the amount of parentheses that I've used.)

Conversely, maybe you hate something that I wrote. Maybe you think I'm a pompous, immature hipster (how dare you). Maybe you know for a fact that we will never be friends.

Either way, I'd love to hear from you.
