My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I’m an extrovert with a quick wit and an easy smile. If I poke fun it means I like you, and I hope you can poke fun back.

There are a lot of places I'd like to travel to and I'd like to have a fun and easy-going travel partner to come along. Some of these include Portugal, Greece and the Seychelles. Do you have a companion ticket?

I feel that the connections we have with others are what bring the most happiness and fulfillment in life, so I do my best to make time for friends and family.

UPDATE: I finally made a trip to Portugal (and loved it). But I have lots of other places on my list, so if you have a list too, and you watch travel-themed shows like Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations or Parts Unknown) or House Hunters International, maybe we should talk!
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Going out with friends, staying in with friends, hosting game nights. Have you played Cards Against Humanity?

Trying to maintain balance. I enjoy my career - it's challenging and I'm continuing to grow in my current position - but I don't want my job to define me.

I spend my personal time engaging in musical and artistic pursuits, enjoying my friends and all that this city has to offer.

I love going to Nationals games - are you a baseball fan?
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Singing! I love music. I currently sing with a choir, and with an informal/occasional band at my office. And last spring I sang in a karaoke competition here in DC for 8 weeks and my team won the competition (yup - I'm one of those 'karaoke people' :)

Listening, and the give and take of a good conversation. I don't feel the need to dominate conversations.

Drinking wine, especially if cheese is involved.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My smile and my happy / outgoing nature. And the fact that I engage them and put them at ease.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: I love fiction and historical fiction, poetry, and the occasional nonfiction book if it covers a topic that's of interest to me.

Movies: I'm an "easy" movie-goer, in the sense that I'm easily entertained when it comes to movies. I love the experience of going to see a movie (and I have to get popcorn, even if we've just eaten dinner) and I'm not very picky about the movie itself. I'm pretty open minded and can enjoy a fun animated film just as much as a drama. Probably the only genre I avoid is horror films (I've only occasionally watched them). I love, love, love theaters like E St. and Bethesda Row where the movies are interesting and unusual and we can enjoy a bottle of wine during the movie!

Live Shows: I'm always up for catching a music / theatre / dance performance. I enjoy going to the Kennedy Center but also love the 9:30 Club, Howard Theater, Birchmere, Bohemian Caverns, Warner Theater, Woolly Mammoth, etc. And I love curling up in the lounge at the Tabard Inn on a Sunday night to listen to jazz music and sip an Old Fashioned.

TV Shows: For favorite TV shows I would have to say - So You Think You Can Dance, Grey's Anatomy, The Office, Parks and Rec, 30 Rock, Castle, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Modern Family, Top Chef, Project Runway, Arrested Development, Up All Night, The Tudors, House Hunters International, and anything with Anthony Bourdain.

Music: I'll admit it - I listen to a lot of pop music :) I have a 35-45 minute commute everyday, and my NPR and top 40 stations get me through it! But if you look through my iTunes library I think you'll find it's pretty diverse.

Food: I love good food, and living in DC there is never a shortage of new restaurants to explore! I'm one of those "eats just about anything" people - I don't have any allergies or dietary restrictions, so I guess I'm an open-minded foodie :)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
How about 8?

Music
People (I'm not much of a "loner")
Books
Laughter
Salt - I put it on almost everything (I know I have a salt problem :)
Diet Coke
Family (including close friends who constitute my "DC family")
Heat (I hate being cold, even though I grew up in northern Maine!)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to put myself in a position to change gears and live a simpler life at some point. I don't want to wait until retirement age to make that change, so I often think about ways I could live abroad for awhile and simplify my life, or change career paths to do something a bit less stressful and more fulfilling.... I have no answers or plans yet, but I definitely think about it often!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm a bleeding-heart softie. That's how I ended up with two cats. (I swear I'm not a crazy cat lady.)

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
I'm hoping to find someone who is intelligent but not arrogant, confident but not cocky, and able to frequently make me smile and laugh.

You don’t lose your temper easily and have an ability to put things in perspective. You don’t get road rage (well, maybe occasionally) and you don’t let poor service at a restaurant ruin your night out. You like to travel, but aren't necessarily well-traveled. Sound like you?

UPDATE: You should only message me if you have thoughts to share beyond "u r hot" (or similar pithy messages). Is it nice to know you think I'm hot? Sure, I guess. But as an opening message it doesn't do much for me, and it certainly doesn't make me want to respond or get to know you better. I'll be even MORE flattered if you tell me something about you, and express a more genuine interest in getting to know me.
