My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Few things make me happier than cooking. I really enjoy cooking with friends. I like to throw big and informal dinner parties. I'm also a fan of games like Apples to Apples, and Bananagrams (works out well for the parties). I have a weakness for bad horror movies (not so much for torture porn).
I spend a lot of time hanging out with my neighbors. That's awesome because, aside from being fun, it also means I have people to turn to if there's a leak in my roof.

I can be a little shy at times, but I can also fall into great conversations about a wide range of topics. Sports is mostly not one of those. I don't have cable, but I love my Netflix subscription. I really dig relaxing with the newspaper (or a book), some music, and a cup of tea.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Hmm, still figuring things out. I'm a lawyer, and I really enjoy certain aspects of it, but I'm still exploring. I also enjoy writing about local issues (both online, and in print). I somehow even manage to get paid for it. Along those lines I'm fairly involved in my neighborhood, and tight with my neighbors,
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Procrastinating. I also write and cook quite proficiently. I'm a very good listener and reader. I can hang drywall, paint, garden, and even do electrical work with a little supervision. I am not so coordinated, so sports like basketball are not my thing and I suck at pool.

I had a little trouble with this section, so I had to phone a friend. Here's her answer:

Well, first off, she has a very charming smile. And from the moment you meet the conversation never ends. She's bright, quick, and really sweet. She's a fantastic balance of "Secure in myself" and "Shy with a pinch of awkward". You can immediately tell that this is one warm hearted human being.

I read a wide variety of books and articles. I like fiction (I was an English major), but I also enjoy non-fiction. I have a decent collection of vintage cookbooks. Some books I like: Wuthering Heights; Why We Buy, I May Be Some Time: Ice and the English Imagination; Lord of the Flies; The Secret History; The Right to Privacy; In Cold Blood, The Art of Eating, Everything that Rises Must Converge, Comfort Me With Apples. My favorite short story is Sonny's Blues by James Baldwin. I also like anything by Robertson Davies.

I also watch all sorts of movies, but my guilty pleasure is horror films. That said, I don't do torture porn like Hostile. I much prefer a spooky haunted house movie (e.g. the 1963 version of the Haunting). A few movies that I dig: Manhattan Murder Mystery; The Haunting (1963); Real Genius; The Shining; Waiting for the Light; Singles; Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels; The Big Lebowski; Eat Drink Man Woman; My Life as a Dog.

I don't have cable, but I do have Netflix. Favorites series (no particular order): Law and Order, Lost, Twin Peaks, No Reservations, The Wire, Homicide: Life on the Streets, Battlestar Gallactica, Torchwood, Bad Girls.

I'm also pretty eclectic with the music. I really like: New Order, Beat Happening, the White Stripes, various jazz/blues, Billy Joel, Johnny Cash, Iggy Pop, Billy Stewart, and Nina Simone.

Food, wow, that's harder. Obviously I like to make pizza. Also a huge fan of: banh mi, pho, sushi, good tacos, Indian and Thai curries, miso soup, kimchi, good boudin, blood oranges, papayas, sorbet, goat cheese, chilies, ginger, lime, berber, and mint. I will eat gored gored.

I'm also a fan of podcasts. Here are some favorites: Ice Box Radio, 19 Nocturne Boulevard, Wiretap from CBC Radio, RISK! the Dunesteef, the Drabblecast, Good Eats, We're Alive: a Zombie Story of Survival, Wormwood, the Horror!, the Moth, New Yorker Fiction.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Air, water, food, sleep, exercise, reasonable gravity.

Six things I'd rather not live without (no particular order): good food, tea, good friends, good music, my two cats, limes, curry, sashimi.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
The future. I think about my own future, and also the future of the people, places, and things closest to me. I live in a neighborhood immediately adjacent to a rapidly developing commercial corridor. I think about where it's headed, and my own role in that development.

I like planning things I'll cook for casual dinner parties with friends. I'm pretty creative with the cooking, so it can get involved. I'm also constantly wrapped up with house projects. My home was built in 1913, so it needs a little TLC on a pretty consistant basis.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Doing something low key with friends. Maybe a movie, dinner, and wine. Maybe a backyard fire at a neighbor's house. Generally just something chill.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I tie my shoes funny. My parents had trouble teaching me and so they put me onto Velcro. Possible parental fail there.
