I am effervescent, spunky, and inqusitive.
My Self-Summary
I adore cats and the great, wide world in equal measure. My three
purring fluff balls and my time spent in Sweden and Japan are dear
to my heart. Children are another of my loves (no, not in a "here
little girl, I've got candy" type of way), and I'm working towards
becoming a high school social studies teacher. New experiences are
the creme de la creme of life, and I never turn down an opportunity
for adventure, big or small.
I'm fairly quiet around new people, but I warm up quicker than a
hotdish, and amongst my friends I'm known as the one who laughs
hardest and the most often.

What I’m doing with my life
The world of academia will soon be taken by siege and held hostage
until I receive my major in secondary education and minor in
Japanese. After I
deem that Stockholm Syndrome has set in satisfactorily, I'll flee
back to to Japan for several years to live and teach English at my
former high school.
After that? I'll probably return to Minnesota (or perhaps tempt my
luck in Chicago) under the guise of a social studies teacher
(
Psychology,
human geography,
politics! I can't believe people get
payed to talk about this stuff all day!).
Should my kitties decide to keep an eye on me, they will
undoubtedly find a way into my luggage in order to keep me company
during my travels.
I’m really good at
Foreign languages! (Swedish (fluent), Japanese (proficient), German
(some), Spanish (a little)). Getting along with people, chatting
folks up, having a sense of humor about life, speed-reading. I also
excel at sleeping through loud noises and poking fun at myself. I
like to think that I'm also highly articulate, enthusiastic, and
conscientious; along with a bit sarcastic.
The first things people usually notice about me
My enormous smile or loud laugh - depending on whether they see or
hear me first. Upon closer inspection, people will often note my
color-coordinated outfits, plethora of earrings, and (in writing)
my love of the
Oxford Comma.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: the Bourne Trilogy, Tipping the Velvet, Harry Potter,
In Cold
Blood, Lord of the Rings, The Giver, A Tale of Two Cities, The
Beauty Myth, The Bell Jar, psychology textbooks. Absolutely
anything by Emily Dickinson or Henry David Thoreau.
Movies:
Harold and Maude,
Amelie, Bound,
Show Me
Love/
Fucking
Amal, Fight Club, Run Lola Run,
Tonari no Totoro,
Sweeney Todd,
Gran Torino,
Howl's Moving Castle (why yes, I am a nerd. ;)).
Music: Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, Three Days Grace, Papa Roach,
Basshunter,
Kent, Pink, Lady
Gaga, Evanescence,
Utada Hikaru.
Food: Sushi, chocolate,
green tea ice cream,
watermelon, lobster, grilled salmon, Japanese-style curry, Swedish
cookies.
TV shows: The Rachel Maddow Show, The Colbert Report, Late Night
with Conan O'Brian, SNL, Firefly, Stargate Atlantis, Cold Case,
Project Runway, Bones.
Video game series:
Harvest Moon, Animal Crossing, The
Sims, Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy.
The six things I could never do without
- My cats - my friends occasionally comment that I'm going to grow
up to be a crazy cat lady, and although the term "lady" implies a
degree of placidity that I'm not sure I'm looking to achieve, I
consider the rest a most delightful prospect.
-
Traveling -
The world seems both larger and smaller when you're abroad. Larger
in that the magnitude of how MANY people in the world there are can
make you feel very small indeed, yet the world somehow also shrinks
when you see that people the world 'round have the same worries and
dreams and that smiles are universal.
- Books - Reading provides us innumerable places to go when we have
to stay where we are.
- Politics (including but not limited to commentary by
Rachel
Maddow)
-
Laughter
- Colors - Especially the VIBRANT ones! And neons have a special
place in my heart, right next to my aortic valve.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The world, and how I relate to it. I am set on making a difference,
and my ultimate goal is to help other people throughout the course
of my life. I spend a lot of time thinking about how our culture
views and treats youth, and about our
mental health care system, and how
each of these things could be improved in the future. Have any
thoughts on these subjects? Bounce 'em off of me!
On a typical Friday night I am
I'm not really a partier, as I don't care for alcohol much, so I'm
usually at home reading my latest book or catching up on the week's
politics, cuddled up with a mug of
chai tea and a cat or two draped across
my lap.
As for the rest of my free time, at home I enjoy throwing together
fine Japanese cuisine, alternately chastising and applauding the
talking heads on
MSNBC, and doing various fussy little
crafts like folding
origami and
hand-sewing. My domestcity ends,
however, before the point where one joins a bitch-'n'-stitch sewing
circle and takes to knitting tea-cozies.
When I'm out with friends I like to hit foreign films or local
going-ons like pride and art fairs. One of my favorite places to go
is the
Dudley
Riggs theater - it's my absolute favorite (and little-known)
comedy venue!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I never was able to tie a cherry stem into a knot with my tongue.
:(
You should message me if
I love meeting new people, and am always looking for more queer
friends in and around the twin cities.
And remember - when messaging, grammar, capitalization and
punctuation are your friends! Please write properly. For the sake
of the children.
