I am introspective, philosophical, and curious.

My Self-Summary

I'm a child of hippie parents, and some of their influence is obvious. I'd like to contribute to the world in some way, but I'm not quite sure how yet. My dad dreams of stopping global warming, but I'm not that ambitious. As a musician in high-school, I learned to appreciate art, and I'll be happy if I can produce a work that makes people feel something they've never felt before.

I grew up in Nebraska and have lived here my whole life. Lately, I've been considering spending a year in Japan sometime in the next decade, just to get out. I love Japanese culture, from anime to video games. It's like a different planet over there, and I want to explore.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm currently working for a brew-pub while I finish up a degree in Web Design. I'm the training supervisor for that chapter of the company, and I enjoy contributing my knowledge in new ways, but I'm not sure my career lies in hospitality. Web design allows me to flex my logical AND creative sides, so I think it's the perfect match. Now, if only companies weren't all firing their staff...

This year, for the first time, I'm finally writing (a stage-play), something I've always wanted to do. It's influenced very heavily by my favorite TV shows, Buffy: the Vampire Slayer and Lost, both of which are primarily about personal growth. My main character is female, yet her experienced emotions are a reflection of my own. I don't really know how that works, but I'm very excited!

I started practicing Poi (fire-spinning) and seem to be doing well--I have the blisters to prove it.

I’m really good at

Waiting tables--I've been doing it for 10 years... :p

Other stuff: Cooking, Rock Band, nerdy things (computers, trivia, Sudoku)

I would like to think I'm good at Web-Design, too, but I suppose that must be decided by my peers.

Actually, I have a lot of musical talent, and while I'm not pursuing anything of my own right now, I would enjoy the occasional classical concert. If only I had a date who enjoyed these as well...

I also have a 1st Degree black-belt in Taekwondo, though that was over a decade ago. I'd love to get back into martial arts if it weren't so expensive these days.

The first things people usually notice about me

I use lots of big words, and I have big smile lines on my cheeks.

I tend to "wear my heart on my sleeve", which means, you can read my emotional state like a book.

I also appear very tall (as I am quite slim) and even taller when my incredibly slender, 6'7" father is with me.

Occasionally, I am verbose.

Recently, someone commented that I have a "childlike wonder" at the world, which struck me as deeply insightful.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Lots of Sci-Fi/Fantasy, though I dabble in horror, and I'm currently reading some "how-to" books on writing. Faves: Ender's Game (or anything by Orson Scott Card), Snow Crash (most of Neal Stephenson's work), Lord of the Rings, Interview with a Vampire, Harry Potter (of course!), The Tao of Pooh, Jonathan Livingston Seagull;

Movies: I like stuff that makes you think, almost to a fault. It's hard for me to enjoy casual comedies because I feel like they've just gotten so ridiculous. Everything's like Animal House, now. Directors like Steven Soderbergh are awesome (looking forward to his new one, The Girlfriend Experience), and Kevin Smith is all kinds of brilliant. Faves: Fight Club, The Matrix, Chasing Amy, Donnie Darko, Ocean's Eleven;

Music: I have very eclectic tastes. Pop, Urban, 80's, Techno/Trance (so Paul Van Dyk, PPK and Sarah McLaughlin's Bloom Album), angry white-guy music like Linkin Park;

Food: Sushi, Chinese Take-out, making AND eating Cheesecake, grilled foods, anything with bacon;

The six things I could never do without

1) My computer/internet connection
2) Memory foam on my bed
3) Really good beer/wine/spirits
4) My book collection
5) My iPod
6) A private apartment (I'll never have roommates again!)

...7) Am I allowed to say "sex" here, or is that a given?

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Myself. That's not to say I'm egotistical, but more that I'm constantly trying to figure the world out and I like to know my place in it.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about writing. A few friends have spurred my desire for expression, so I'm thinking about what to write.

This most recent election inspired my interest in politics, so I have been following Obama and the economic crisis very intently. I also happen to know a bit about how health care works, and I hope that we can produce some kind of workable solution for the snafu it's become in the U.S.

Up until April, I was thinking about Battlestar Galactica a lot. Dollhouse held my attention briefly, but it's not the same. Now, I'm getting ready to dive into Trueblood (if they have two seasons, it can't be TOO bad, right?) I have thought more about Lost than is probably healthy; that show is simply nuts!

I'm thinking about getting another tattoo to complement the first one. Someone very wise once said to me, "Decide on something, then think about it for six months." I'm still trying to decide exactly where to get it, so if you would like to make a suggestion, message me!

On a typical Friday night I am

Working. I'm making money so I can go out some other time. On the plus side, it means a shorter wait for the restaurants and the movies!

I usually hang out with close friends on my days off, but I'm interested in Omaha's social scene and I wouldn't mind finding a few people to explore it with. I do prefer the quiet martini/wine bar to the boisterous dance-club, though. While I enjoy looking at you all night, I enjoy hearing your voice--usually the first thing I notice about a woman.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

If money (and schooling) were no object, I would pursue a career as a voice-actor for animated movies.

I'm not sure I can explain it (because most girls tell me they use them when they care the least about their image) but I think pony-tails are sexy as hell...

You should message me if

...you're interested in some really deep, stimulating conversation. Push your thoughts to their limits and think things you have never thunk before.

...you love tossing opinions around about good movies/TV shows.

...you want a new tennis partner and don't mind teaching him how to play.

...you think I'm cute and you've always been looking for that excuse to explore that wild side after the lights go out...

...you're a fan of Asian culture and want to discuss anime, sushi, video games, or even martial arts.

...you want to meet someone new who enjoys talking to people about anything that excites them.
