I work as a research scientist and enjoy working out and leading a pretty healthy lifestyle. So physical fitness and intelligence are two traits that are important to me. I'm also a fairly decent musician and enjoy various sports (watching and playing), movies, good TV and good beer. So, if you like good guitar playing combined with really mediocre singing, lively discussions about Game of Thrones genealogy and why the Karate Kid 2 is the far superior movie when compared to the first film while drinking a good IPA or watching a Kings game (hockey not basketball), we just might be a match! Or if you like dudes that use a lot of run-on sentences, then that could be a good sign too.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm a scientist and I live and work in Santa Barbara. I work on and run a variety of projects that range from studying chemical reactions to find efficient catalysts for generating alternative fuels to literally blowing up improvised chemical devices in the middle of the desert to determine where the safest place would be (if anywhere) if you found yourself in compromised situation. I am also an amature mechanical and electrical engineer, which means I'm good at fixing a lot of little things that like to break around the house.
I’m really good at
Shredding guitar solos, settings screens in basketball, math (somebody has to be), Game of Thrones and Star Wars trivia, getting speeding tickets (hopefully I start to suck at that one), figuring out how to solve problems that happen to pop up, keeping my car and house clean, stopping on a dime on ice skates and setting up surround sound systems without having a ton of wires all over the place.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I'm wearing clothes. I mean, at least 90% of the time I'm definitely wearing clothes.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Star wars (can't help it), shawshank redemption, lord of the rings trilogy, almost any Quentin Tarantino movie. You know, stuff that nerds are into. I like all types of music but my first love is metal. There is nothing like a good IPA. As for TV, there are and have been many great shows. Breaking bad, Dexter, Buffy (yeah, you read that last one right), Walking Dead, True Detective (first season) and Madmen just to name a few are great. And of course there is the one show to rule them all...Dancing with the Stars!!! OK, that's a lie. Instead, insert Game of Thrones!!
The six things I could never do without
A lot of people list off a bunch of stuff but I dont spend much time thinking about this. I imagine that it's the little stuff that adds up. Like Adam Carolla's podcast, a beer after work, the next season (or any season) of Game of Thrones or filling out online profiles. Wait, maybe not that last one.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How it is theoretically possible for information to travel faster than light using quantum entanglement theory and what implications this has on Einstein's theory of special relativity. Either that or if I remembered to turn off the coffee maker before I left for work!!
On a typical Friday night I am
Hard to say. They can be very different from week to week. A good
beer coupled with good conversation is probably my favorite type of
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm illiterate in Mandarin.
