My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Hello and thanks for stopping by. These introductions are always difficult, aren't they? Trying to strike the right balance here is important. I'm an old soul who is looking for friendship, a companion and equal partner for our life's journey and a heart-swelling romance - all at the same time. I'm not really looking for anything transient or shallow, I want something deeper and more sincere and honest than that. I play fair and don't take advantage, that's not honorable or good Karma.

I moved here seven months ago to make a fresh start in my life after my divorce in 2013. I work in health care with the elderly Deaf, serving people with disabilities has been my career of choice since I finished college. I'm very positive and I've made a determined effort to make friends with like minded people.

I work out two or three times weekly. I'm a Libra. My Myers-Briggs personality type is INFJ. That means I'm more of a thinker, preferring my interaction to be more substantial than shallow and I search out harmony and balance. I'm an amateur astronomer and I like to cook and bake. I also enjoy reading, group meditation, dancing and road trips. I'm politically liberal and am agnostic. I'm also into science fiction and fandom as you will see from my movies and books below, that's been an influential part of my life for a long time. I've also set out looking for a spiritual practice that suits me and feels right, Portland has been magnificent in offering opportunities for that.

Fun/interesting facts about me: I've visited 26 states and lived in 8 of them. I've moved out of both California and Arkansas twice. I've tracked Halley's Comet. Twice I rode my motorcycle (I don't have one anymore) over one thousand miles in a day. I love to bake my own bread from scratch. I prefer to adopt elderly cats. I was a twin. I was a service (USAF) brat who was born overseas in Madrid, Spain.

I'm looking for someone who is sensitive and affectionate, sensual and enjoys laughter, who is intelligent and honest. Trustworthiness and emotional availability are important traits to me. I want a friendship with loads of mutual respect and smiles and loving glances and touch. And also couch time with pizza and Netflix, a road trip to share a hike to some of the waterfals on the Gorge, or whatever spontaneous thing we suddenly decide to do. I don't have kids but might (or might not) want them. It'll depend on my partner, our situation and so much more.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Eating healthy and working on happiness and love. And stargazing. Waiting for someone to fall into my arms and sail with me out of this Sargasso Sea of "unattached and dating". Working on mindfully living in the moment.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Mindfully listening to my dates, sometimes they've never had anyone do that :-) I want to know your origin story. What helped create the you that is reading this now?
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My eyes and my voice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Movies: I love going to the movies, but I find many of the popular movies are simply a variation on the same plot, I like to be surprised by an intelligently written twist or to be led to empathetic contemplation at the Cineplex (tall order, I know).
Some movies I'd loved and don't get tired of are Vanishing Point (1972), The Godfather, The entire Lord of the Ring and Hobbit series, What Dreams May Come, Across The Universe, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Empire Strikes Back, Clerks, Saving Arizona, Local Hero, Star Trek The Motion Picture, The Maltese Falcon, and Yellow Submarine.
My favorite quote? "Movies are magic" - Cleavon Little, Blazing Saddles.

Musically, my tastes are wide ranging; The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Bruce Springsteen, The Beach Boys, The Bangles, Jimmy Buffet, Queen, Weird Al, Type O Negative, Scott Joplin, Beethoven, Mozart, Woodie Guthrie, Enya, The Doors, The Carpenters, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, early Elvis, R.E.M., Neil Young and Crazy Horse and many more are in my music folder

Food: I'm a sensualist with food, I enjoy it all but consider myself mostly vegetarian. My go-to when I am out is Panda Express. Chinese and American food are my favorites, I love the many different textures and tastes from that part of the world. Mexican, Italian, German...I don't think I've met a culture who had bad food. I'm still waiting to try an Indian restaurant with a date or go to a Thai restaraunt. I enjoy Loving Hut, a local place that specializes in Asian style Vegan cuisine. But, I can eat there tonight and then enjoy the terrific fries and something from Burgerville tomorrow. I'm all over the map foodwise. I grew up on Cajun food and miss Mom's seafood gumbo. And her lemon meringue pies.

Alcohol: I prefer Guinness and I love Red wine that's not too sweet or dry. I'll use it for both personal consumption and for cooking. My wine saute'd onions and squash are to die for.

Shows: I don't own a TV. I will stream Masterchef, The Simpsons, Bob's Burgers or The Big Bang Theory. Occasionally. I enjoy the occasional Hulu marathon. Every now and then I'll go to a Star Trek episode showing with fellow Trek fans. I used to watch The Walking Dead and would like to get back into it with a friend, the same for Dr. Who. I loved Firefly. I listen to KOPB and I really like the Ted Radio Hour. I'll listen to the sunday night blues room on 101.9FM if I'm in my car.

Books: OMG, I read constantly and hungrily, my favorites change as book clubs introduce me to new writers or series. 'A Confederacy of Dunces' is my favorite general fiction novel, 'The Moon is a Harsh Mistress' is my favorite science fiction novel, 'The Art of Happiness' is my favorite self-help book, and 'The Stand' is my favorite horror novel. I prefer to read science fiction or horror, my tastes range from Asimov to Zelanzy. I like Whitley Strieber, Dean Koontz and Stephen King for my horror/weirdness. I'm afraid you'll never get me to leave if you take me to Powell's, I've yet to venture there. I'm reading 'Freakonomics' right now. A friend keeps telling me to write my bio, I'm just about to start it.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Mindful kindness
Walking at the park on a nice day - when DOES it stop raining here?
My MP3 player
My telescopes
Daily Meditation
Coffee/Caffeine
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
My next cup of coffee. Being more Zen. My place and purpose in the Universe. Which book to read next.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I try not to have typical Friday nights. I might be out with friends, enjoying dancing and dinner with a date or enjoying live music somewhere.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have had a moderate hearing loss since I was born. I cope with it very well, but it does present me with interesting life challenges sometimes that take out-of-the-box thinking to conquer. It also makes me work harder to stand out from the crowd of boring guys here at OKCupid.
