My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I see myself as someone compassionate and kind. I tend to make deeper connections over time with the people I interact with. I take my time to form opinions, like to go in-depth, and usually don't get carried away. At the same time, I am not rigid, and I appreciate other points of view and ways of doing things. Actually, I think it is good that people do things and live their lives in various ways, as that helps the society learn better ways of doing them.

I have a passion for music, and I have learned music for some time, both Western and Eastern (Carnatic). It is one of my aspirations to learn to compose music, which is going to take more time to get there.

Listening to NPR , or reading the New York Times and the BBC makes me feel good. Among other things, I appreciate the empathy I usually find in the NYT reporting and articles. It shows me that besides good writing skills and research there are other important things to consider in writing a good article. I also like listening to the old time radio shows in The Big Broadcast like Johnny Dollar, Dragnet, and Gunsmoke.

I am very interested in getting to know new people, new ideas, and learning new languages, and I have been learning German and French for some time.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Currently I am working on my PhD in Electrical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. I am also paying attention to be mindful, look beneath the surface, and appreciate the day-to-day life more deeply.

At other times I enjoy listening to songs like "Young Dumb and Drunk," -- obviously, that is not a reference to me :) -- usually while singing, or playing guitar or keyboard by ear. The slow songs make it easier to do that. When I say singing and playing, don't take it too seriously, I am learning, more as a self-entertainment.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
focusing on the positive and keeping it light.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My smile and warm nature. That is what I think.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Books: Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone et al. is the last book I read.
The Innocents Abroad, and The Awful German Language. I love the intellect and humor of Mark Twain.
Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert. This book by a Harvard psychologist talks about why we are so bad at predicting what will make us happy.

Shows: The Big Bang Theory.
Two and A Half Men. I wish Charlie Sheen hadn't messed that up.
Maigret. This detective series in French is what made me interested in learning French.
Arrested Development. Highly nonlinear plots, but very funny.

Music: Classical music. I have a good collection on my amazon cloud drive that I listen to.
I also enjoy good Pop music, Carnatic and Hindustani classical music, and Hindi and Malayalam film songs. I think I have listened to and liked almost all the songs by Lily Allen and Shawn Colvin.

Radio Shows (NPR): This American Life, Fresh Air, The Big Broadcast, The Moth Radio Hour, Car Talk, TED Radio Hour, A Prairie Home Companion.

Food: Mainly vegetarian, also eggs, fish, chicken etc. I eat healthy, and like to cook.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Family and Friends, Music, Compassion, Books, Bike, and Computer.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Can submarines swim, or computers think? :)
Self-growth, sustainable living, and reducing energy and water usage.
Why the person they are looking for being funny is apparently important to so many. Of course, it will all become clear one day, until then I guess I may have to continue to be funny.
Also, some technical problems involved in getting computers to analyze and understand what they see through cameras.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
listening to The Moth Radio Hour, working on a paper, or doing other random things like having fun at a stir event -- OK that is not typical, I went once and it was fun meeting and talking to new people.
