My self-summary
Name's James. I'm a transplant to the Bay area from an enigmatic and foreign land, otherwise known as South Carolina. I'm not your typical southerner though. Most people here remark that I don't have an accent, but I do say "y'all", drink sweet tea, line dance, and know how to saddle a horse. I moved out here to work at a spaceflight R&D facility in Palo Alto. I'm looking to find someone to share in life's adventures and then snuggle up with when we've both had our fill at the end of the day.

I love all sorts of different things. For example, I can find the same enjoyment in theater, jazz (I play the trumpet), and fine art as I can in a night of dancing. The same holds true for an anime convention or hiking / backpacking or tailgating at a Clemson Tigers football game or horseback riding or martial arts or skiing 34 days in a season, or any of the other multitude of crazy things I'll get myself into.

Really, the most important thing I'm looking for is someone that thinks I'm awesome and of whom I think the same. Outside of that, surprise me.
What I’m doing with my life
Attempting to navigate an early career in Silicon Valley, do maker and hacker side projects, and have a life all at the same time. Results may vary.
I’m really good at
problem solving, planning, and procrastination. I think the first two are the result of practice caused by the third.
The first things people usually notice about me
My chiseled physique?

This sounds like a good first conversation in person. I'd love to hear people's answers.

I think with my hands, but I don't really talk with them. I swear I'm not (completely) least they've not carted me off yet. Ooo! What a nifty white jacket....(Admiral Akbar in the background: "It's a trap!")

I'm an unending well of random scientific knowledge. The product of way too much Discovery Channel and Bill Nye as a child and ignoring pop culture as an "adult"...whatever that is.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Sci-fi genre books, especially Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy and the Ender series. I wish I spent more of my reading time on books for pleasure rather than papers and journals for research. I'm currently trying to get through several non-fiction stories, most notably Lost in Shangri-la.

Action, Sci-fi, Thriller, and Epic movies. I really like movies and TV that are a visceral exploration of humanity. Top honors go to Batman: The Dark Knight and the new Battlestar Galactica. I also have an appreciation for anime as an art form, especially the darker more psychological themes like those in Ghost in the Shell and Death Note. The medium lets you do things you just can't in live action.

When it comes to music, I'll listen to just about anything given the right situation. In general, I'd say rock for driving, country for riding, jazz for relaxing/expression, hip hop and techno for clubbing, etc.

If you're looking for something to understand me by, listening to Halestorm would be a good start.

I'm a die hard foodie. During the growing season, I used to have a small container garden and buy the rest from the student organic farm on campus and the farmer's market near my apartment. Sadly I lack growing space now, so I rely on a bi-weekly CSA box. I also like to cook fancy dishes that I make up. Interested in being a culinary guinea pig?

In general, I like the finer things. Craft beer, 18+ year scotch/whiskey/bourbon, good wines, and other examples of exceptional distilled craftsmanship.
The six things I could never do without
Learning something new - wisdom is humanity's gift and curse.

Good friends - the most valuable commodity in this life.

The stars - to be reminded of our place in the universe.

Nature - what we come from, are sustained by, and will return to.

Sunny days - to feel the world smile.

The future - change makes the present precious.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
...why it seems like half of the OKC population has the exact same picture of themselves in front of Machu Picchu. I've never been there, but its hard to imagine that there's only one camera angle to pick from.
On a typical Friday night I am
...chatting with you over craft beer, fancy drinks, or scotch that's as old as we are.
...twirling you on a dance floor.
...wrapped up in a sleeping bag with you, watching the stars.
...cuddling with you in the corner booth of a swanky jazz club.
...doing something that you suggested.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I will randomly bust out "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" at the most unusual times.
