I am curious, compassionate, and competitive.

My Self-Summary

I'm a college student and a biology major, aiming to go to medical school afterwards. I'm dealing with the double whammy of both being a transfer student, and attending a school who's social life ouside of the drinking scene is practically nonexistent, so I thought I'd try out this site. I enjoy fencing, video games, and talking about pretty much anything. I've yet to try any sort of outdoor activity I haven't liked. My two big passions are science and culture studies. I'd studied abroad in Japan last semester, and the cultural parallels and divergences were fascinating. History, geography; it's all reflected in the culture. Even the grammar structure plays a part! Anyways, it was a real eye-opener, and gave me a glimpse of how my own culture was shaped by such things.

What I’m doing with my life

Right now, I'm halfway through my biology major and Japanese language minor, and am still trying to find a good balance between work, play, and sleep. Soon I'll be studying for the MCAT.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I enjoy books that combine multiple genres, especially with a dose of speculative fiction, so Ursula K. Le Guin, Neal Stephenson, and Steven King are my three favorite authors so far.

I like pretty much all types of movies except for teen comedies and cookie-cutter romances. Thank You for Smoking, I Am Legend, American Gangster, The Importance of Being Earnest, and any of the Marx Brothers movies are the first that come to mind. I do have a soft spot for zombie flicks and Jackie Chan films.

I listen to a lot of different styles of music, anything from the Beatles, to Queen, to Mute Math, or even Ayumi Hamasaki. Not a fan of hip-hop or country, though.

And for food, everything. Indian, Italian, Tex-Mex, French, Vietnamese, Japanese; they all have dishes I love!

The six things I could never do without

Friends, family, good food, books, the internet, and SCIENCE!

Oh yeah, and ethics too. (If you're a stickler for "six things", then just remove half of "good food" and "books", and put in "ethics" there.)
