My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Describing myself is no fun, and unlikely very objective, but here goes! I love to learn, and spend time reading, studying or otherwise geeking out on a regular basis. My main passion is philosophy, though I have a wide range of interests including art, food, science, music, and linguistics. I also love all things cute, and have a soft spot for the silly and surreal! As for hobbies, these days it's mainly video and table-top gaming, as well as working on novels and other projects; I love writing songs too. If you're not running away scared yet, we may be off to a good start!

I love animals especially my Cat Sweep, who is adorable and lovely. He's a bit of a thief though, and brings home anything he finds interesting. As long as it isn't alive, I don't mind. My favourite so far was catching him dragging a teddy bear larger than he was through the kitchen window!

Having moved to Hereford (a couple of years ago now... time flies indeed), and away from the friends I grew up with in Cardiff, I am eager to meet new people in the local area, for conversation, beer, films, walks, games, pub quizzes, adventures and/or other miscellaneous antics!

I enjoy cooking, and it's always fun to cook for someone. I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm not going to poison you either.

My taste in music is a little eclectic, but I can enjoy most types; going to gigs is great when I get the chance to see one of my favourites. I think the best for me was seeing Counting Crows and The Hold Steady in Cardiff in 2009. I sadly missed the former on their brief UK tour this year as I was on holiday.

My sense of humour varies from silly and surreal, to witty and sophisticated, to ironically crude. The only thing I really don't go for is stereotype-based 'humour'; sexists, racists and sexualists can just move along, please. It's hard to talk about my taste in TV and films without simply listing dozens, but I tend towards comedy and fantasy. My collection includes lots of British and American sitcoms, Anime, and various types of comedy films.

As far as gaming is concerned, RPGs all the way. And classic Nintendo of course :) I am an unabashed Pokemon fan. I have recently started getting into board games and card games.

I read quite a lot, though these days a lot of it is for university courses. I like to read fairly light, humourous or fantastical fiction to contrast with the philosophical texts I read the rest of the time.

Goals and aspirations? To have fun. To be happy. To get a book published. To see a bit more of the world. To hug cute animals.

Oh, by the way my name is David; Dave is fine if you prefer it... some people think it ought to bother me but it really doesn't.

I love a good debate from time to time; it's always nice to exchange opinions and views. I'd love to meet people who enjoy good conversation, particularly people whose areas of interest or expertise are different from mine. I love being around someone I can learn from! I also like people who enjoy a bit of silliness and are happy to listen to me talking nonsense from time to time. A good sense of humour is the most important thing in a human being. I enjoy eating and am pretty adventurous with food... however I am unable to eat raw tomatoes.

I'm a postgenderist/feminist and that's very important to me.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have recently finished an Open University degree studying Philosophy, Art and Linguistics with a view to doing more in the same vein in the future. I previously studied physics at university and worked as an astronomer for a while, but I really needed a change of direction.

Hoping that someone will publish something I've written, though I really ought to get something finished first.

Writing lots of songs. It's my favourite form of expression, and I hope one day they can actually be used for something, but for now it's just a hobby.

Spending time with friends whenever I can. Traveling to visit the ones who aren't close by.

Trying to lose weight despite my general distaste for exercise... I am Wii Fit-ting almost every day!

Trying to recover from serious anxiety problems and similar. When people ask what I am doing with my life it is very difficult to have to bring up such things. I feel I should mention it if only because it's a part of who I am, for now at least.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I think I'm pretty good with words; my ambitions are mostly related to my love of writing. I write songs, poetry, short stories, and at the moment am working on a book for children, which is coming on quite well, if slowly.

Word games; I play boggle online quite a lot, and am really quite good at it by now!

According to others, I am patient, reliable and a good listener. I am notoriously difficult to annoy, apart from suffering quite badly from Misophonia.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my beard nowadays :/

I tend to read quite a lot, though I often re-read things many times rather than branching out as much as I feel I should. I like to read a lot particularly the books of Tom Holt and Terry Pratchett, as well as philosophical works (getting to grips with Wittgenstein at the moment) and humorous non-fiction of the type written by Danny Wallace, Dave Gorman and Tony Hawks. I also enjoy the occasional manga, and there are a few that I think are worthy of being considered literary classics, such as Maison Ikkoku. I am not ashamed to admit that I also enjoy classic childrens' books such as Winnie the Pooh, Le Petit Prince and particularly Moomin.

I have a wide ranging taste in movies... I enjoy most British comedy, particularly the films of Simon Pegg, and just about anything featuring Johnny Depp! Tim Burton is amazing. Oh, and I loved Dark Knight, even though superhero movies generally aren't my thing. I also love most of the films of Studio Ghibli and, to be honest, Pixar (Wall-E being the best, in my opinion). It's fun to watch bad movies once in a while as well, as long as they are bad enough to be enjoyably bad..!

I tend to prefer TV shows to movies though, particularly intelligent comedies such as The Thick of it, Peep Show, Black Books, Father Ted, Frasier, Ally McBeal, The IT Crowd, anything with Charlie Brooker, Stewart Lee or Bill Bailey and many others. I love to watch cooking shows too, though I'm quite particular about them (there's too many not to be!) I love Masterchef and never miss it if possible!

I don't think I should leave out stand-up comedy, since that is also a great love of mine. My favourites are Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran, Stewart Lee, Richard Herring, Robert Newman, Simon Amstell, Kevin Eldon and Eddie Izzard.

Music-wise, I tend to like a wide range of things too. My all-time favourite band are Counting Crows, though The Hold Steady are starting to come close! I also love The Cranberries, Levellers, The Cardigans, R.E.M., Catatonia, David Gray, Alanis Morissette, Van Morrison, Goldfrapp, Equation, Loreena McKennitt, David Byrne and Talking Heads, The Crash Test Dummies, Cake, Pink Floyd, JJ72, Shivaree and, um, others that aren't springing to mind. That's enough for now I'm sure! In general I tend to like folk-based things with great lyrics. Jonathan Coulton's work is great fun too.

I really love food of almost any kind, but I can't stand raw tomatoes. I particularly love Indian food. I love to try new things, despite being a nervous person I also like to explore outside of my (tiny!) comfort zone when possible.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
My Friends, family, cats, and my wonderful wife of course!
Good Food
Writing Implements
My camera! I take a lot of pictures!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
As a philosophy student I could go a bit overboard on this one. I do tend to spend a lot of time thinking; either about philosophy or planning a book or other project.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Right here! Having moved to Hereford, I don't have a local social circle (yet). That's one of the main reasons I'm on OkCupid right now!

Playing board games, enjoying a glass of red wine, snuggling my lovely cat Sweep! ^_^
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My wife says I should write that I am secretly a fairy princess baby hamster in a grown man's body. Probably not so far from the truth!

You're interested in talking to someone who is a good listener and conversationalist, have a whimsical sense of humour or any similar interests to mine. I love meeting new people and get on pretty well with everyone. Also if you fancy playing a board or card game; I have lots!
I am very much looking for new friends, or even dates if you are super wonderful! My wife has a girlfriend, which I think is awesome, and we're both open to other relationships in this way.
