My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm your token intellectual socialist twink. I am from the Netherlands but moved to London to study at the London School of Economics; I'm now doing a PhD at Brunel University in an economic history subject, and struggling with getting on with it. I spend my time reading, drinking beer, going out, walking and on the internet, or enjoying the many cultural events and sights London has to offer. My English is pretty good but I have a slight accent that I am a bit sensitive about (people keep saying it sounds Irish!). Trying to learn more languages.

I am queer, intellectual, and political. I'm the sort of guy who votes the most left-wing candidate and who buys organic and fair trade stuff, so you have to be able to deal with that (hey, fair warning). Though my socialism is much more theory-based than a lifestyle question, for sure. I'm sarcastic but optimistic, very political but pretty open-minded, and have a deep well of shyness under a bubbly exterior. I love the word 'twink' and spend too much time posting things online. I can't stand banter, gendered insults, and general masculine posturing. Sometimes I experience periods of introversion and spend all my days sitting at home with a book, other times periods of being very social and adventurous. I can be quite nocturnal, because I don't sleep easily.

Aesthetically, I enjoy art nouveau, baroque music, forests, intelligent fantasy and cyberpunk stuff (Miéville!), Soviet constructivism, the 19th century, art deco, and androgyny. I like sandbox and strategy games, environmentalism, and visiting sites of architectural interest.

I know a large collection of Jewish witze.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Studying and reading, lifting weights, posting on the internet, going out, talking to friends. Educationally speaking, I've studied philosophy and economic history and I'm now into my first year of a PhD at Brunel University, thereby giving up any reasonable chance of a well-paying career forever, I fear. My ambitions are academic and political, in any case, although I play around with the idea of becoming a writer - but then, who doesn't? I also want to take singing lessons at some point.

I read a lot of books, particularly nonfiction - anything about economics, history, philosophy etc. interests me enormously. This is why I tend to make a lot of 'me time' for educating myself, which sometimes is at the expense of my social life, unfortunately. Although sometimes it's the other way round, which also doesn't quite satisfy me. I don't have nearly enough time to do everything I'd like to... However, slowly but surely I am getting to know the ins and outs of London, culturally, architecturally, and in building up a circle of awesome queer, leftie, genderbending, geeky, and/or otherwise fascinating and lovely people. I would also much like to see more of the world. I've travelled extensively in Europe and North America, but there is a whole world out there to see, and so much interesting cultural and historical stuff to explore. Want to join me?
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Reading, debates, everything academic, making weird faces, being goofy, terrible gay puns, travelling
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have pretty big eyes and I'm very white. I have very little body hair and am a secret ginger. I look much younger than I am - to the extent that I always have to carry my passport around in case I want to grab a pint...

B: I'm not a huge movie-goer, but I like Lord of the Rings, Bladerunner, Der Untergang, Angels in America, Twelve Angry Men, Fantasia, Home, Koyaanisqatsi, Winged Migration. Generally, as films go, historical, dreamy-surreal and arthouse stuff is my taste, and unusual documentaries. I don't like television for the most part, so that's wasted on me, although I do enjoy documentaries sometimes, e.g. Louis Theroux, and grim, political miniseries/films like Edge of Darkness, Threads, A Very British Coup, Saló (and other Pasolini films) etc.

Also blues and church music (Gregorian, organ, etc)

D: French, German, Italian, and so on. I love most Asian food, especially Indian, Japanese and Thai. Generally I like trying out new things food & drinkwise. I prefer eating veggie food if at all possible, but I'm not too strict about it if it's a problem. I'm very fond of good food and wish I could cook to match my foodie taste...
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Boys, Books, Beer, Boots, Bands, and Butterflies
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Everything theoretical - politics, philosophy, sociology, economics, history, you name it. I'm pretty serious about these things. If you want to abolish capitalism, gender, patriarchy, (sexual) competition and possessiveness, or puritanism, those are big bonus points in my book.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Either going out or reading a book back home, or something like that.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I like being sub in bed! And then I mean really. Most kinky things appeal to me anyway; I'm perhaps oddly exhibitionist for an often shy person. I am extremely nonjudgmental about sex (going by enthusiastic consent, of course) and encourage people to be honest about it. Even if I don't share someone's kinks or interests, the mere fact they will admit to them makes them more attractive to me. I think I'd make a very good sex counsellor. I have a Fetlife account too - same name.

Also, I have probably played Baldur's Gate at least 20 times now.

I should note that I also like women, but I don't know if I should call myself 'bisexual' since I don't have enough experience with dating women. In any case I don't think these labels do much good really. I'd go for 'queer' but annoyingly OkCupid doesn't have such an option.

Please note I do NOT use OkCupid as a hookup site. Don't ask me for just sex on here.
