I am optimisitic, creative, and verbose.
My Self-Summary
I'm a little lost about what to write here--I've lived in New York
City for over a year now. I spend a lot of time alone cooking,
watching TV, and going to the ballet. I'm the type of girl who
dreams of finding someone through some movie like "meet-cute" by
bumping into them while exiting the train, or sharing umbrellas.
Obviously, this will never happen, so I've turned to the internet
(and frequent reading of Craigslist's "Missed Connections").
Needless to say, I'm a hopeless romantic.
I'm a writer, and currently work for a media company.
My life is all about trying new things (and being open minded) in
my history I've done everything from playing violin to competing in
equestrian competitions, to attending Fashion Week.
What I’m doing with my life
Writing and working at a magazine/media company. Prior to that, I
worked at an architecture magazine, and before that--book
publishing! (Aiming at being the next Joan Didion (and halfway
laughing every time I say that).
I’m really good at
I'm an OK writer.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I look much younger than I am.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
A. Books: I'm truly in love with
Ralph Waldo Emerson and
Joan Didion.
I've been on a biography kick for years right now. I'm also big
into periodicals and magazines, which I consume more readily than
books (I'm lazy about reading, and often under deadlines). Right
now reading
Proust
"In the Shadow of Young Girls in Flower." I love: The New Yorker,
Vanity Fair,Vogue, The Kenyon Review and the Paris Review.
B. Movies:
Amelie,"
Not really current, but a gorgeous movie. I like hearing everything
in French, and the plot, and the cinematography, everything was
great. I love Hitchcock and Sophia Coppola especially. Her two
films,
"Marie Antoinette" and
"Lost in Translation"
were superb, I favor anything with illustrative scenes and minimal
dialog.
I also adore really old movies: Rear Window, Auntie Mame, Harvey,
Vertigo etc.
C. Music: As far as music goes, I listen to a wide variety...my
favorite bands are
The Strokes,
The Killers,
Ima Robot,
Bloc Party,
Interpol,
The Postal Service,
Keane,
Arcade Fire,
Friendly Fires,
MGMT,
Coldplay,
Animal Collective,
Sufjan Stevens and
Travis. I also like
musical artists like
Joshua Bell, and
Peter Cincotti. My favorite
composers are
Tchaikovsky,
Prokofiev,
Puccini,
Philip Glass and
Kenji Bunch. I devoted the
month of December to studying Beethoven, and enjoy playing Bach
whenever I can (he's so metric that it's wonderful).
D. Foods: Pasta, seafood, Mexican food, anything. I'm happiest when
I'm out to eat, I enjoy the atmosphere of a restaurant and the
whole ritual surrounding it.
The six things I could never do without
1. A pencil and paper, or anything to write with. 2. My violin.
3.Food 4. Music. 5. My computer. 6. God.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Ideal New York evenings, and the future.
On a typical Friday night I am
At Lincoln Center for a matinee or evening performance, having
solitary dinner on the Upper West Side, or drinks and dessert at
some famous cafe that needs redecorating.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Creative minds and talented persons make me weak in the knees.
You should message me if
You just want to chat with someone! I adore meeting new people of
all kinds--so don't hesitate! I'm not the type of girl who gets a
message on OkCupid and doesn't respond. Nor do I ever turn people
down at face value. Not that I'm desperate, I just don't like to be
rude. Heck, I need all the good romantic karma I can get!
