I am somewhere in between, my love, and my agony.
My Self-Summary
^---those are lyircs from a Faith No More song. The video features
exploding fish, clown suits, and a paint fight. Check it out, it's
awesome.
I'm a full-time graduate student at Grand Valley, living and
working in Jenison. I'm looking to meet some new friends.
What I’m doing with my life
Livin' the dream, of course. I just got out of the Peace Corps
earlier this year after spending two years in Thailand, and now I'm
trying to get back on track. I'm in my first semester of grad
school at GVSU, going to school full time and working part time.
Also, I'm trying to save up to study abroad in Australia this
summer (!!!!)
I’m really good at
Parallel parking.
Picking out birthday presents.
Getting along with dogs.
Using coupons to get a good deal.
The first things people usually notice about me
What a lame question. Here's what I first notice about other
people:
whether or not they're taller than me
if they have b.o.
do they have jacked-up teeth?
That's right people, it's all about aesthetics.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
TV: Intervention, because it makes me feel better about
myself.
Movies: Pulp Fiction, Shaun of the Dead, The Royal Tenenbaums, No
Country For Old Men, and Super Troopers if I need a good
laugh.
Music: 90's rock, the same stuff I listened to in high school.
Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., The Lemonheads, Placebo, Hum, Liz Phair,
Rancid, Veruca Salt
Radio: NPR
Food: celery, grapefruit, Cheerios, orange juice with tons of pulp,
pretzels dipped in cream cheese, cooked onions (but no raw
onions)
Restaurants: The Cottage Bar, San Chez, El Burrito Loco,
Vitale's
Books: Only textbooks at the moment, but I love to read. David
Sedaris, Nick Hornby, Joyce Carol Oates, Annie Proulx, H.G. Wells,
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Bret Easton Ellis, The Kite Runner, East of
Eden, A Million Little Pieces, The Blind Assassin, old stuff, new
stuff...just about anything (no chick lit, please).
The six things I could never do without
Dental floss, peanut butter, books, a yoga mat, ponytail holders,
and a comfy pillow. I feel quite confident in listing these things,
having lived out in the sticks of a "developing country" for over
two years. I really couldn't live with out this stuff, and when I
was unable to buy it, I had my mom ship it to me.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Cities I used to live in, people I used to know, what I should eat
for dinner, and what my life would be like if I won the
lottery.*
*I have never bought a lottery ticket. I'm intimidated by the whole
process.
On a typical Friday night I am
Probably preparing for my Saturday morning class, falling asleep on
the couch.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
My ability to drive a stick shift gives me an unwarranted
superiority complex.
I have a hugely embarrassing crush on Gerald Laird.
