My self-summary
I throw myself into ideas and movement. I want to dissect history and media through a Feminist lens to understand what makes our society tick (and why it ticks so shitty). I bury myself in albums/concerts/movies/books to keep my heart pacing. I crave the motion of running and dancing so I can connect to myself in motion.

Basically I just want to see the whole range of human experience and beauty while pushing it, and myself, to make it better than it is. I do balance out these aspirations with a more-than-healthy dose of introversion and appreciation for quiet, silliness, and excessive "squee!!"-ing over corgis + red pandas. So don't fret, I enjoy balance as much as I enjoy momentum.

If you -really- want to know the key to my heart though, #IntrovertPickupLines
What I’m doing with my life
A software engineer that does web stuff. Don't let the stereotypes fool you though; I enjoy good hygiene, am respectful on the internet, AND manage not to be perpetually covered in a fine film of cheeto dust. (For real though, I think tech culture is pretty toxic and tend to be embarrassed by it.)

Outside of the day-to-day geekery, I help organize a feminist reading group and volunteer for various goings-on around Boston/Cambridge cause I'm young enough that my hope/optimism has yet to be quashed by a cruel, unforgiving world (so far!).
I’m really good at
Running! A few years of marathons have left me especially prepared to outrun a zombie apocalypse provided I have adequate reserves of short shorts and chocolate milk.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Whoamg I love almost all of these things.

Music: Most weeks I'm either at grungey rock shows in Allston or sexy house/disco nights in Cambridge. Essentially I'm either standing there, nodding approvingly, or gyrating awkwardly (as is the style these days).

I know OkC likes name-dropping though, so here are some favorites as of late: Animal Collective, DJ Sprinkles, New Order, Grimes, Beyonce, Nujabes, Blood Orange, Ricky Eat Acid, Julia Holter, Gem Club, Braids, Frank Ocean, 2NE1, Orange Caramel, Speedy Ortiz, Kal Marks, Perfect Pussy, White Lung, Blue Sky Black Death, Sun Kil Moon, Deafheaven, The Knife, Flying Lotus, My Bloody Valentine, anything from 100% Silk.

I also have a last.fm if you really want to dig into my music habits: http://www.last.fm/user/40nights

Movies: I'm obsessed with movies. I tend to fall on the more indie/classic side of things, though I have a soft-spot for ridiculous 80s movies and any kind of cult classic you'd see at midnight at Coolidge Corner. Consistent favorites are La Haine, Weekend, Blade Runner, The Battle of Algiers, Trouble in Paradise, Do The Right Thing, El Topo, The Holy Mountain, To Live and Die in L.A., Repo Man, Akira, Pavilion, anything by Cassavetes, Chungking Express. If you get psyched for the yearly Criterion sale then we will get along.

Books: Absolutely voracious reader (how else could one survive the green line every day?). A random sampling of favorite authors: Roberto Bolano, Iris Owens, Herman Melville, Sylvia Townsend Warner, James Joyce, James Baldwin, Mikhail Bulgakov, and bell hooks. Currently reading "The Flamethrowers" by Rachel Kushner (recs more than welcome!) which has been thoroughly eating my head in a delightfully thoughtful way. I'm guilty of a near-lifetime of anglo male writers so for the past year I've been trying to correct that; after a while you realize how fucking boring the "canon" gets. "Oh woe be my privileged problems of numerous attractive women and this [romantic/modern/postmodern] existential male dread! wahhhh"

Shows: I don't watch too much TV, but I have been enjoying Looking and House of Cards lately. I tend to like binge-watching shows with other people rather than keeping up on my own (an exception being Orange is the New Black. I'm gunna binge this new season so hard).

Food: I'm in a constant state of cooking vast quantities of delicious foods to prevent wasting away (thanks, marathon training!). So my favorites are pretty much anything that lend themselves well to vegetarian, like Thai, Mexican, etc. I recently realized there's an Indian grocery store down the street so I suspect that within a few weeks I will be more naan than man.
The six things I could never do without
- Foam roller.
- My apartment plant, a Hawaiian Emerald Stump called 'Handsome George'
- Crippling record and tape addiction
- Tim Gunn
- Cute animal gifs and all internet sources thereof
- Shameless overuse of parantheses
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Why Forrest Gump continues to be 80% of this site's favorite movie (I've got theories on this: let's just say that FG is the fantastical dream of American conservatism triumphing over the liberal menace).
On a typical Friday night I am
Since it's now summer, my nights will consist solely of fine 1980s Californian sleeze.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I think breakfast is sort of overrated.

Yes, I know, I'm history's greatest monster.

You have strong opinions on Benedict Cumberbatch as a valid heartthrob (let's be real here, the man looks like a 19th-century Victorian ghoul)
