My self-summary
I strike a good balance these days. I work in the San Francisco financial district but I live with a great group of housemates in a house near Lake Merritt with a cherry tree in the back yard, a crazy '60's intercom system, and Molly, the sad basset. And Gatsby, a wise feline. I work out on my lunch hour most days of the week, and in the evenings I fix something healthy and put on a little comfort TV (Northern Exposure or Johnny Staccato, "television's jazz detective"). On weekends, I review movies and interview filmmakers for a film talk show on a college radio station, which is a blast. I'm a huge fan of big breakfasts, HBO programming (also AMC - Mad Men and Breaking Bad), NPR, old movies, old records, and old comics, and any tucked-away eatery with atmosphere and a memorable dish or two. I'd like to meet anyone who is smart and fun, with adventurous tastes.
What I’m doing with my life
I work at an architecture firm and contribute to a radio show about film.
I’m really good at
Making a killer, heaping omelette and a strong pot of coffee on Sunday mornings.
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably the light beard and what I hope is a warm, easy-going grin.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: The Sportswriter trilogy; The Moviegoer; pretty much everything by Philip K. Dick and Graham Greene; the poetry of Richard Hugo and Robert Frost

Movies: Blade Runner, In a Lonely Place, Fat City, Ed Wood, Rushmore, Groundhog Day, The Red Shoes, The New World, Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

Music: Elvis Costello, The Velvet Underground, Galaxie 500, Lester Young, Bill Evans, Beach House, Deerhunter, Karen Dalton, Joy Division, New Order, Junior Boys, Cat Power, Neko Case, Tears For Fears (Songs From the Big Chair!)

Shows: Louie, Girls, The Mindy Project, Mad Men and Breaking Bad, Justified, The Naked City; Northern Exposure and Freaks and Geeks are kind of on a continuous loop in the background of my life

Food: toasted subs, tacos al pastor, a well-seasoned omelette (fashioned by yours truly, natch)
The six things I could never do without
B&W films, coffee, avocados, used book stores, jazz records (and radio), Bowie
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Should I buy that beautiful British edition of Saroyan's The Adventures of Wesley Jackson or the gorgeous German poster for The Underworld Story, featuring Dan Duryea? (The answer was yes in both cases.)
On a typical Friday night I am
At the movies, at a bar, at a burrito place in East Oakland, or unwinding with records
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I used to not really be a pet person, but our household cat Gatsby has worked his way into my affections so that now I'm helpless when he scratches at my door (and miss him when he's out!).
