On my bookshelf: A whole lot of detective stories — Rex Stout and Ellery Queen are favorite authors; "Absurdistan"; "It's Superman!"; books on interfaith issues, business, and optimism from a great-uncle who founded a range of organizations; Associated Press and assorted other style guides, from my reporter days; books on cities and public policy, and a few Philadelphia-related almanacs and tourism brochures from the 60's to 80's — I was an urban studies major at Penn, and still get excited about that sort of thing; a lot of technology books, from my current line of work.

TV: I decided to cancel my cable a couple of months ago in order to start watching TV casually and irregularly again. I bought rabbit ears and found some interesting broadcast channels that weren't on my cable plan. Favorites of those show reruns of programs like "I Spy", "The Bionic Woman", "To Catch A Thief", and "Barney Miller".

Food: I've been a vegetarian since I was 16. When I'm on my own or with people who like vegetarian food, I take advantage of the great vegetarian restaurants in Philadelphia — Vedge may be one of the best anywhere — and an abundance of falafel shops and Chinese vegetarian takeout options. Otherwise, I'm flexible, and can generally find something to eat — or pretend to eat — in most places.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I sometimes seem quiet, but I'm reserved, not really an introvert. Which is inconvenient, since I work in a field where it's common for people to be extraordinarily introverted, and it can be hard to find someone else to talk to.
