My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I pursue new experiences while trying to be helpful to some and harmful to none.

I'm a college lecturer and writer so find myself attracted to creative and intellectual types.

That could mean you're a contractor and build stuff like one of my best friends, though. He's a smart dude.

Former military special operations, but a long time ago, so my political views are moderate. I think there should be a third party, "The Mod Squad." Our color, of course, would be purple; think Jon Stewart suggested the moderate party as well, but I lay claim to the name and color :D

I just bring up the spec ops thing because I think it informs my sense of adventure, my outdoor pursuits, and my sort of equal divide between the intellectual and physical in my interests.

Apparently, I'm an INTJ personality type after completing a Myers-Briggs style test.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Filling out this Internet dating website's exhaustive questionnaire exhaustively.

Some things I like to do:
-ride my beach cruiser around town instead of getting in the car
-see live music
-check out restaurants I haven't been to
-run races (5k's, obstable races like Spartan)...
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Bullshitting (as in talking or "shooting the shit," not as in prevarication), reading, writing, thinking, running, daydreaming, eating, critiquing, professing and any other -ing I've put a lot of time and effort into and continue to pursue...

My laugh...seen Amadeus? My eyes. My humor (hyperbolicious). My intelligence. My energy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

A sampling of favorites--

Books: The Golden Notebook, Trainspotting, The Brothers K, The Stand, The Left Hand of Darkness

Movies: Apocalypse Now, Donnie Darko, Amélie, Amores Perros, Bridesmaids, The Iron Giant

Bands: Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, The Breeders, The Cold War Kids, Jane's Addiction, Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath (with Ozzy), Sheryl Crow

Food: Love to try new stuff. Been some places in the world and always game to try the local delicacies such as mudbugs in NOLA; blood sausage and bull's testicles in Montevideo, Uruguay; a great steak--rare--in Madrid, Spain; steak tartare at Foucuet's on the Champs-Elysées in Paris, France and so on. And in spite of all the carnivorous dishes mentioned, I do find myself being an "accidental vegetarian" pretty often.

Shows: The Shield, The Sopranos, The Wire, Generation Kill, 30 Rock (I added this last because all the others shows are violent, and I do love comedy and Tina Fey).

Quotes: “It is better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.” --Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea

“Ideally, what should be said to every child, repeatedly, throughout his or her school life is something like this: 'You are in the process of being indoctrinated. We have not yet evolved a system of education that is not a system of indoctrination. We are sorry, but it is the best we can do. What you are being taught here is an amalgam of current prejudice and the choices of this particular culture. The slightest look at history will show how impermanent these must be. You are being taught by people who have been able to accommodate themselves to a regime of thought laid down by their predecessors. It is a self-perpetuating system. Those of you who are more robust and individual than others will be encouraged to leave and find ways of educating yourself--educating your own judgments. Those that stay must remember, always, and all the time, that they are being moulded and patterned to fit into the narrow and particular needs of this particular society.” --Doris Lessing, The Golden Notebook

“No creature can learn that which his heart has no shape to hold.” --Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses

“Personally, I believe that real rock ‘n’ roll may be on the way out, just like adolescence as a relatively innocent transitional period is on the way out. What we will have instead is a small island of new free music surrounded by some good reworkings of past idioms and a vast Sargasso sea of absolute garbage.” --Lester Bangs, Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Since even my daughters aren't officially needs, these are really the six most important things to us in our lives, right?

My twin daughters
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Intellectually curious so just about anything. I like thinking, brooding, contemplating, reflecting, analyzing, dissecting, cogitating--I'm a writer and academic, goes with the gig.

I also like to take a break from thinking by checking out some live music, going camping or hiking or something else that uses my body and not my mind.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I try to dodge typical, but I'm either with my 2 daughts (pronounced "DOTS" and short for daughters), hanging with friends, or going to an event--like music, readings, plays, movies, roller derby and on and on, or staying in and enjoying some me time (movie, book, writing).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Nothing over the Internet, but we can play some Truth or Dare in person for nostalgia and just because it's wicked fun.
