extroverted, fun-loving, and a good listener
My self-summary Propose an edit
Hey I'm Mike, welcome to my profile. If you're looking for an
incredibly tall, dark fella, you're not going to find it here. I'm
afraid I can only offer handsome, but I'll throw in caring as a
bonus. I also appear to be one of the few guys on this site who
isn't a lecherous weirdo, so if you feel like talking to someone
who isn't just going to say "hey, wanna have sex" then keep on
reading!
I'm a student at
Manchester Uni at the moment and loving the city and the life, but
as I'm the eternal party go-er I thought I'd try on here and
see if I could meet some new and fun people. I've got brown hair
and I'm fairly short, with a quite muscular body.
I'm a music lover
(although these days everyone says that) and used to host my own
radio show on the student radio, which I'm hoping to carry on at
some point. I'm not a very self-conscious person at all, and can
generally talk to anyone about anything. I can make small talk for
hours, especially towards the end of a night when the conversation
inevitably wheels around to what's wrong with the world and big
questions about the universe. I enjoy thinking about deep things
even if it's completely pointless, although I try to stop myself
from doing it too much because I realise the importance of living
in the moment and making use of the time I have.
I love to go out
most nights and have a few drinks with my mates. I keep a fairly
wide social circle and love to meet new people. I always enjoy
people's company, and truly enjoy knowing about people's lives and
their experiences, because every story I hear and every tale I get
told gives me more ideas and more insight into how other people
work. It also gives me great ideas for things to write about and
think about.
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
At the moment I'm a student at Manchester University
studying Psychology. I'm not sure what I want
to do afterwards yet, although I'm fairly sure it won't be anything
directly involved in Psychology itself. If I don't become a rock
god or a dj (Hey, dreams can come true right?), I'll probably go
into Marketing or Journalism. Whatever I end up deciding to do I
intend to be successful at it. I'm blessed with a pretty good brain
and tend to excel at most things I try at. You know those really
annoying people in high school who never seemed to do any work,
missed classes and did stupid stuff, but always got better grades
than you? Yeah that's me. So once I actually develop a focus in
life I'm sure I'll do well at it.
I'm also currently working as promotional staff for a comapny which
runs some of the biggest student nights in Manchester, and am also
holding a second job writing for an IT company which is wanting to
expand at the moment.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I've always had a talent for being people's "augony aunt", most of
my close friends come to me when they have problems and I'd like to
say I'm always there for them. I'm a good listener and have a great
ability to see things from multiple points of view. I think people
like coming to me because they know I'll be honest and tell them
what I believe is the right thing to do. Of course most people will
end up not following the advice and get themself into the mess I
advised them to avoid, but hey, that's humanity for you.
Other than that, I'm a decent writer and enjoy crafting the written
word. My muse has currently departed and I'm not sure when she's
going to be coming back, so I haven't written much over the past
year. I can't wait to be able to put pen to paper (or finger to
keyboard) and have that feeling of creativity flowing again.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
People tend to notice that I'm fairly short quite quickly (as my
loving friends enjoy pointing out) and that I'm a generally happy
person. People also tend to pick up fairly quickly on my accent,
being a West Yorkshire lad.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
Being the son of a Librarian means I have a fair collection of
favourite books. I'm a fan of Ian Banks and Dan Simmons, but also a lot of
lighter stuff, like the good old Harry Potter and His Dark Materials
series. I also love a lot of older novels and I enjoy dabbling in
poetry from time to time. I really love the work of Tennyson,
although I'll always have a soft spot for "Jabberwocky" by C.S.
Lewis.
As for movies, I'm a comedy lover, Sean of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are two which
have to top the list. Outside of comedies I love things like
The Matrix,
Aliens, Pulp Fiction,
Kill Bill,
Lord of the
Rings, Dark
Knight and anything by Tim Burton.
Music is a huge area for me with a massive range. I'm into so much
it would be hard to go into it all, but a lot of bands and dj's,
generally in the genres of Heavy Rock, Melodic Death Metal,
Doom Metal,
Electro, Drum &
Bass, Indie,
Pop and Classic Rock.
As a sample of my music tastes, here's a quick list of some of my
favourite bands at the moment:
Amon Amarth, Queens of the Stone Age, Crystal Castles, Type O
Negative, Primus, Dropkick Murphys, Venetian Snares, Queen, Jimmi
Hendrix, Turisas, Turbonegro, Swallow the Sun, Stone Roses, Oasis,
Muse, Simian Mobile Disco, Justice, Rob Zombie, Pulp, Prodigy,
Pendulum, Libertines, New Young Pony Club,
As for food, I appreciate both good cuisine and slap-up greasy
food. I love to go to nice places when I get the chance, but then
again a kebab or cheese-burger after a good night out can be just
as rewarding.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
My computer- I spend a lot of time on the net, talking to friends
and catching up, looking up random things and generally
browsing.
Facebook- It reminds me when events are coming up that I'm meant to
be going to (and lets me see if I'm double-booked) and any
birthday's that are coming up, and generally makes organising my
life a whole lot easier.
Rock- Don't get me wrong, I love other types of music a lot, but I
think that without rock music in my life, I'd go slowly
insane.
Friends- Another corny one I know, but not for the usual "my
friends mean everything to me" reasons. My close mates do mean a
lot to me, but I put this because I'm a very social guy, and I love
going out, meeting people and enjoying a bit of banter and
fun.
A brain- I'm not a geek or in any way hard-working, but I like
being able to think about deep things and generally ponder.
A soul- I try to be a good guy with my life. I try not to make
people unhappy, I avoid violence and I try to keep other people
happy as well as myself.
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
The future, and how I'm scared that I have no idea what I'm going
to do with it.
Death, and how I never want it to happen to me.
Life, and whether it has any meaning.
The universe, and whether there is anything out there.
Why people are the way they are to people, and ways of trying to
show people that we really can all get along.
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Getting heavily intoxicated with my friends, going out to a few
pubs and a club,
partying
hard and generally living life to the full! Although seeing how
Friday's and Saturday's are days where the clubs in Manchester tend
not to do student nights and bump up their prices, sometimes we
just stick to the pubs, or drink at the flat, save up the pennies
for the more fun student nights throughout the week!
If I'm not out and about drinking, I'll at least be with some
friends and doing something. I don't like doing nothing on a friday
night and I can't hack being bored and sitting in on the one night
of the week where I feel I should be doing something. I've got a
reputation for being the person who you can rely on for wanting to
go out. Absolutely cripples my bank balance, but hey, if I didn't
blow my money on alcohol and get in ridiculous amounts of debt, I
wouldn't be a real student.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I am actually THE perfect man. I'm just so ahead of the fashion and
appearance trends that it'll be another fifty years before people
realise it.
