My self-summary
It's sometimes odd to write about how you're this one thing. It changes all the time and if you could ever really peg it, then why write in a journal more than once in your whole life? I'm pretty sponaneous and I think that I use my free time pretty damn well. Recently, I bought and flew a kite because it was windy. No shit. In saying that, I hardly ever get into bed before 1am. The contradiction of having a lot as well as very little to do works just fine in my life.

I'm into cooking, coffee, my friends, shuffleboard, onomatopoeia, dive bars, reading, yard sales, dirty martinis, noodle joints, sushi joints, genuine smiles, turbulent weather phenomenon, sarcasm, too much else to list. I'm not a musician and I don't really have plans to be one if that's your thing. My writing is my art aside from my everyday.

As far as careers go, I'm a chef which is a lot different than being a professional cook. I work long days, burn myself all the time, work hours contrary to a lot of people and I love every bit of it. Still,
I have the crazy luxury of having two days off every week. In a row!
What I’m doing with my life
Living day to day with my sights set on the future. I'm not the stagnant type. I'm hardly ever bored but neat looking plants also amuse me so who the hell knows.
I’m really good at
If there's a magazine about it then it's officially a hobby. Conversations, my job, making fun of bad movies, moon watching, cooking, driving, writing, avoiding assholes, making coffee, long distance walking, being perceptive, having perspective, brunch, bowling(when drinking), typos, drawing funny pictures of food doing things, stretching, comic timing, snowboarding and sandwiches...especially. I'm best at the act of sincerity above all else.
The first things people usually notice about me
My glasses and my beard. Sometimes, my hat if I'm wearing one. The giant goiter on the side of my face. Not really
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Musically, I'm pretty eclectic. I switch between kcrw and kday a lot. I like big band and jazz like Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk and Ahmed Jamal. On the other hand, I like Flying Lotus, Mayer Hawthorne and Os Mutantes. Jamaican rocksteady is responsible for some of my favorite songs. I also grew up with my sister's taste for hair metal, pop, gansta rap, and new wave. I discovered the best station on Pandora by typing in Beryl Booker and now I'm obsessed.

To think about reading the L.A. Times on a smart phone makes me cry a little on the inside. I read a lot though. The backs of cereal boxes especially. My favorite authors are Gabriel Garcia Marquez, John Fante, Hemingway, Philip k Dick, Cormac McCarthy, and John Steinbeck. Without Stephen King, literature and pop culture would be missing more than a few great things too.

That last Rambo movie was pretty good but so was Being There. Some of my fav movies are Fantastic Planet, Sling Blade, Trading Places, Beetlejuice, District 9, The Weather Man, The 5Th Element, Troll Hunter(seriously) and most sci fi stuff.
There's hardly enough room for food and tv shows so I'll just say Mr. Bean, Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Mad Men and Cheese....oh, and Adult Swim is pretty neat.

I take food pretty seriously but I'm not a food snob. If I want to do something special on my day off, it usually revolves around food and trying things I like or something I haven't had before. Brunch is still the best meal of the day. Any day.
The six things I could never do without
My wits. Asian food of any kind. Honestly, I could do without a lot of things. The world before the internet was still pretty neat.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Where I've been and where I'm going. Life, joy, love, loss, food, potential, history, sex, nature, science, art, stupid puns, Katamari, serendipity, songs I like, people I like, alternate realities, cosmic things and the universe in general. How ancient Egyptians invented emoticons and created their written language around it. They were crazy good texters.
On a typical Friday night I am
Secretly wishing that I'm donating my time to charity. Then I dismiss it and swear to do it some other time. In reality, I'm likely trying to keep the restaurant running well and thinking about brunch service in the morning. My Fridays are actually my wednesdays. And my mondays are better than most people's saturdays soooo..
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Tried to make my cat play the keyboards once. He was not okay with it. Also, I love Fleetwood Mac. Why would I write anything more personal than that?
