I am pretty friendly, thoughtful, and terribly droll.

My Self-Summary

So, me - I'd like to live in a library, or at least have a study in my home. I always want a book or five at my fingertips. Words fascinate me.

Dancing is one of the best ways to spend a night.

I like old-fashioned manners and politeness.

My alarm clock plays NPR to wake me up.

I want to watch French new-wave movies with someone and talk about it afterwords.

I like the nervous excitement you feel the first time you put your arm around someone/exchange a first kiss/that sort of thing.

What I’m doing with my life

I work at a bookstore. It's alright. Discounts.

Every so often I do some writing for a local newspaper.

I've done a semester or two at a city college, but I don't know about going back. I love academia, but I hate going to school, if you follow me? Frankly I would prefer to skip to Professorship, or at least get an honorary degree.

I've got some friends on okcupid too, they're alright as far as I'm concerned: goethfer JasmineBeard Juliov23 pennypaca rklish

I’m really good at

I can play the accordion, but not 'really' good, more like 'pretty' good.

I can get pretty seriously wonkish about politics. Please don't let me start unless you like that sort of thing.

I'm alright at dancing.

No-one I know packs a better suitcase than I do. I like to be ready to travel quickly.

When I give massages I get compliments.

The first things people usually notice about me

I guess I dress a little unusually. I'm usually in rather tight jeans, which is not so weird in itself, but I like to wear ties/sweater vests/jackets and other things like that. Probably that.

Maybe one or two facial features might be noticable - my lips, or maybe my eyes.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

When I'm reading: Many, any. Murakami. Zizek. Peake. Pynchon. History books, some science fiction.

McSweeney's is excellent.

Also sometimes I read comic books - don't tell anyone.

When I'm dancing: I like electro/indie/dance music. I can go for other stuff though. Old-school hip hop is pretty cool - Curtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, Zapp and Roger.

Don't like Black Metal.

Do like theramins.

Do like Chromeo, Ladytron, Ratatat, Ella Fitzgerald, Vera Lynn.

Do like the soundtracks for Wes Anderson movies.

Do like Opera, Tosca is my favorite.

I like watching horrible, horrible, movies - any Sacramento residents will probably have heard of the Trash Film Orgy - I'm a fan. I'm actually like that with a lot of things - I love really highbrow stuff, and really lowbrow stuff.

I've never seen Mad Men but based on what I've heard I'd pretty much like to live in it.

Foodwise, I'm not that picky. I'll eat cafeteria food or fast food readily. But on special occasions, I like going out for Indian. Especially with a big group of people, banquet-style.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How exactly I'll decorate that bookstore in Berlin. Maybe.

On a typical Friday night I am

With friends, usually. Maybe dancing, maybe just watching a movie, or hanging out.

If I'm by myself I might go to a coffeeshop (there's one around the corner) and hang out for a while, read a book or the newspaper.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I write bad science fiction/alternate history short stories and never show them to anyone.

Also, I was pretty disappointed when the Harry Potter series ended.

I spend a lot of time thinking about 'internet things,' they really fascinate me.

My sense of smell is practically non-existent. I have to really stick my nose in things before I can smell them.

You should message me if

You should message me if - You want to watch weird movies and talk about weird things with me, especially more about books. You have your own library, personal or otherwise. You really liked the movie 'Secretary'. You know about McSweeney's. You describe yourself as a history/politics/art/anything nerd/geek/buff/etc because I love that kind of, ah, 'quirky enthusiasm.'
