I am passionate, entertaining, and charming.
My Self-Summary
I guarantee I'm not like anyone else you know :)
I exist primarily to confuse and confound people's perceptions of
gender. I could go on for hours, up the hill and down the hill,
trying to explain how my mind and heart work, but the truth is that
that information cannot be expressed in mere words. Best to just
accept that I'm neither man, nor woman, but something beyond either
of those two incredibly stifling categories. I believe that dead
people are the only type of people who belong in boxes :).
I know you're thinking "Genderqueer? But Eric, how can you label
yourself as 'straight?'" Well, I don't fuckin' know how it works
either :) Until I figure it out (and who cares if I never do?),
you'll have to be satisfied with this quote from poet Andrea
Gibson, who inspires me every day of my life:
"No, I'm not gay. No, I'm not straight. And I'm sure as hell not
bisexual, dammit. I am whatever I am when I am it."
I like to consider myself the love child of Andrea Gibson and Eddie
Izzard :)
Other than all that, I've been doing theatre forever, and it's as
much a part of my life as anything else. I've met most of my
closest friends on this planet through theatre. To love me is to
love the stage!
I love learning about different cultures and belief systems. I'm
currently studying eastern religions, and I think they're terribly
fascinating. I LOVE having deep philosophical conversations with
people about theories and spirituality, so let me know if you've
got something to teach me or you want to learn how I feel!
I'm generally pretty easy-going and I love just hanging out with
people and laughing about stupid shit. :)
What I’m doing with my life
Currently, I'm a senior at the University of Maryland - College
Park studying Communication and LGBT Studies. I work for the Human
Rights Campaign in D.C., and like every college student, I'm trying
to figure out what the hell I want to do for the rest of my life!
I'd love to work for a talent/casting agency someday. The most
recent plan is to move to NYC after I graduate and pursue the
talent agency thing, but who knows where I'll want to go tomorrow?
All I know is that I'm up for the ride if you are ;)
I’m really good at
Theatre, Cooking, Costume/Makeup Design, Making people laugh,
Kissing, Impressions of famous people (ask me about the squirrels
sometime ;) )
I'm also good seeing situations from the emotional side and the
logical side. I've always been a good mediator and listener.
Also, I REALLY frickin' love board games. I'm the person you always
want on your team for trivial pursuit!
The first things people usually notice about me
If it's not my latest makeup/costume experiment, it's probably my
twisted sense of humor :)
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
I have very eclectic tastes, and I'm always looking for new things
to inspire me! These are some of my favorites if I had to
pick:
Books:
Tommy's Tale, Without You, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Pop Salvation, Da
Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, Angels in America, How I Paid For
College, anything by Augusten Burroughs or Celia Rivenbark, The
Picture of Dorian Gray, Gender Outlaw, anything on queer
theory/gender theory. Or anything just generally entertaining
:)
Movies:
American History X, Some Like it Hot, The Green Mile, The Shawshank
Redemption, To Wong Foo..., Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Angels in
America (so good it gets into TWO favorite categories!), ANYTHING
with Kevin Spacey, All kinds of superhero movies, and The Rocky
Horror Picture Show. Yeah, I'm one of THOSE folks ;)
Music:
ANYTHING musical theatre, some classic rock, alt rock, and my
favorite guilty pleasure, NDH (ie: Rammstein, Eisbrecher).
Food:
I'm always wanting to try new things, but my favorites are Italian,
Chinese, and Indian. I make one helluva five-cheese manicotti!
The six things I could never do without
1) intimacy
2) being onstage
3) art/expression
4) laughter
5) road trips
6) "Jeopardy!" (seriously, I love it :D)
My friends and family are a given.
oh, and my bag goes with me wherever I go. No exceptions.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to change the world, the meaning of happiness, sex, my future,
whether it's what career I want to have, what shows I want to do,
or what I want to do on a particular evening!
I also think a lot about different philosophies and theories about
life, as well as all the things I want to experience during my
life.
OH! As a certified theatre dork, I'm always thinking of ways to do
different shows, how to design them, how to put them together, etc.
I want to do real avant-garde types of shows mixed with new and
different interpretations of old classics.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either performing or seeing a show, or most likely out with some
friends. Every once in awhile I enjoy I good night in, but I'd much
rather be out having drinks, at the movies, at dinner, or at a
show!
It's not unusual to find me at DC's gay hotspots - let's face it,
the gays know how to have fun!
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I've always wanted to be a superhero. When I was 5, I WAS Batman.
Given that, I've always had a strange affinity for capes, and I
relish it whenever I get to wear one in a show!
As kinky as my outward persona appears, I'm actually pretty vanilla
when it comes to the bedroom. I'll try anything once, but I prefer
things slow and romantic as opposed to up against the wall with
handcuffs (although I do own a pair ;) )
I'll tell ya the good stuff when I get to know ya ;)
You should message me if
you're looking for good conversation, a few laughs, or someone to
go hang out with and maybe more.
you're open to new ways of thinking about things people take for
granted.
you're a theatre/performance-type and care to trade show stories.
(I've spent time in an RHPS cast - I've got some GOOD ones!)
you know the 4 steps outline in "To Wong Foo, Thanks for
Everything, Julie Newmar" and live your life by them.
