I am curious, sarcastic, and opinionated.

My Self-Summary

I'm going on my 6th year as a Milwaukee resident, and am originally from Green Bay. I'm a student/TA/waitress/box office supervisor. I make a lot of to-do lists. I like to get really fired up about causes (and then do absolutely nothing about them). I am in a constant losing battle with my neighborhood parking checker.

What I’m doing with my life

I am a graduate student & I primarily study television (focusing on how social attitudes and industrial/technological factors influence gender representations). Hopefully, after I complete my Master's degree, I will go on to earn my Ph.D. in a media studies related program.

I’m really good at

remembering trivia/census information, debating, pouring a bowl of cereal, recycling, walking.

What I'm bad at: serving in volleyball, proper phone etiquette, speaking quietly/censoring myself in quiet restaurants when making remarks about fellow patrons, making poor dietary choices when inebriated, finding parking spots near my house, dressing for the weather.

The first things people usually notice about me

People usually notice that I have brown hair and glasses? Which, stereotypically, leads them to assume that I am quiet/always pursuing studious endeavors. When actually, I'm a pretty funny, adventurous, "bubbly," cool-nerd, non-LARP-er.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music: the Boss, the beatles, thomas function, box elders, King Tuff, sonic chicken 4, the kinks, the replacements, velvet underground, mc5, tons of 50s/60s music, local/underground music, and anything played on Memphis' Hot 107.1.

Television: Gilmore Girls, Curb, The Wire, The Sopranos, Lost, Mad Men, Entourage, LOST, Six Feet Under, Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Stella, The Daily Show, Frontline

Movies:
In The Mood For Love, Ran, Annie Hall, Midnight Cowboy, Sunset Boulevard, The Royal Tennanbaums, Pulp Fiction, All About Eve, On the Waterfront, There Will Be Blood, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, La Strada, Nights of Cabiria My Sassy Girl, Kind Hearts and Coronets, Bonnie & Clyde.

Books:
On the Road, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Stranger, Siddhartha, The Plague, My Ishmael, The Autobiography of Malcom X, Lolita, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Gay TV and Straight America, Wallowing in Sex, Guyland.

Food: Wraps, Chips and Salsa/Guacamole, Pesto/Alfredo/Cheese Ravioli/Mostaccioli (spell check seems to want me to write "Molestation" instead)/all things Italian-ish. Mac 'n Cheese (but only on special occasions these days).

The six things I could never do without

1.) coffee/caffeine
2.) LOST & Mad Men
3.) music/book collection
4.) my education
5.) laptop
6.) ipod

I spend a lot of time thinking about

random information. For some reason, I am curious about everything. Last fall, there was a sinkhole on Locust St...and I researched sinkhole formation for a couple of hours. I recently found out my friend is colorblind, so I researched that & then quizzed him about picking out clothes/traffic lights/mixed flavor tortilla chips. I try to think about my own research interests, but often times, I regress into thinking about cool articles I've just read, shows I've just watched, and whether the paint chipping from my ceiling contains lead.

On a typical Friday night I am

becoming an ultimate fighting champion?

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I just wrote an essay attempting to prove that we are all cyborgs (wait....what?!)
