I am grounded, happy, and curious.
My Self-Summary
I've lived all over the place, so my own preferences and quirks
tend to be a bit eclectic. I like living in the city and the
country, listen to rock and classical, played rugby and studied art
history. I work in experiential marketing, which is basically event
planning with a business orientation. I love to cook and bake (my
friends love my cakes and cookies, and I love to have someone to
share them with!). I just generally try to stay well-rounded--I
take French classes to keep my brain going, but then I go goof off
with something silly, like going ice skating in the middle of
summer.
I’m really good at
finding the blessing in any situation. Life can have its ups and
downs, but as long as you learn something, nothing is all rough.
Besides, pinpointing the good has a tendency to elevate the lows.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm cheerful and outgoing. I get the first, but the second is
always a bit surprising. I've always felt a bit shy, so I've really
worked over the years (and over the course of numerous moves) not
to be. Apparently, it's paid off--I can't even count how many times
coworkers at my new(ish) job have commented on how outgoing I am.
Whew!
The six things I could never do without
1) My phone--my family lives all over the country/world, so
anything that helps us stay in touch is a good thing.
2) My computer--ditto.
3) Bacon and mushrooms (I know that's two, but they're both
food!)
4) The wee hours of a rainy early morning when everything is still
dark and quiet--it's the best time to sleep.
5) Subscriptions to both the Economist and US Weekly--gotta balance
the two halves of my brain out!
6) Green oases in the city, like Riverside Park and the Union
Square Greenmarket
I spend a lot of time thinking about
food! I love to read about nearly every aspect of it: policy (how
it gets to us and what it does to us once we have it), cookery
(blogs, magazines, about twice as many cookbooks as I currently
have space for), restaurants (though I don't try as many of them as
I'd like)... I also spend an inordinate amount of time thinking
about what I want to make, what I will make, and how I could have
made something differently in the past. I love trying something new
and trying to figure out what's in it--a little culinary detective
work. And then, of course, I also like to eat, because all that
thinking makes me hungry.
On a typical Friday night I am
either completely crashing with a week's worth of tivoed shows or
trying a new restaurant with a few friends.
You should message me if
you're confident yet not overly cocky. You have a passion for
something--it doesn't necessarily matter what, but a sense of
enthusiasm or drive is important. Intelligence/education (not
always the same thing, but often they are) are also essential.
Likes and dislikes beyond that, I suppose, depend on the man!
