My Notes edit

My self-summary

I'm not here for sex, love, or money. ...Well, okay, I'll take money. If you insist. I'm also not here for poor punctuation, capitalization, and spelling, so please peddle your 'u's and 'kewl's elsewhere. (I will, however, accept "mad awkward" due to my recent discovery of its usage in the work of William Faulkner.)

I am generally no-nonsense; however, I also adore nonsense: smart nonsense, Monty Python nonsense, nonsense that is deliciously random but includes no references to penises or overweight mothers, except when it does. I prefer a dry wit to a dirty joke, though I'll take the second if it includes the other.

I believe in honesty. Not just, "Yes, I slept with your boss a year ago, I'm sorry," honesty, but full-out, say what you mean when you mean it honesty. Nothing barred so that no one will bar anything in return, and we can all vent until we're blue in the face, and then go out for cocoa.

On a related note, I'm often considered a bitch.

What I'm doing with my life

Having just dropped out of college (I'm "taking time off"), the world is my oyster. Which is to say, I'm desperately seeking occupation. I'm curious about everything and anything, ranging from volunteer farming to shoehorning and begging my way into a job I'm way underqualified for, but might send me places, or at least pay me. Right now, my best options seem to be in the secretarial field. Helloooo, Post-Its.

When I'm not day-dreaming viable life options, I'm day-dreaming of the less likely: running away to London, Oxford, Edinburgh, or Italy. Or just opening a bakery. I bake when I'm stressed. Here, have a brownie.

One of my major life goals is to eat my way across the world. (Also, try chocolate from every country.) I love travel: I spent a semester in Italy, and can't wait to go back. Cannot. Wait. As a result, I often dream in incorrect Italian.

I'm really good at

Being socially awkward. I am QUEEN of the socially awkward; I dare anyone to beat me in the Shuffling in a Corner, Avoiding Eye-Contact party dance. This also means I'm relatively shy, and a terrible conversationalist - thus my exploration of a venue such as this to find friends.

I'm passably good at writing, and excellent at reading. I throw pots - in the way of creation, not actually hurling teapots against walls - and I am the best packer I know. (No, seriously. No one can get a suitcase together like I can.) I'm good at maintaining distance-based relationships over phones or text; some of my closer friendships are conducted via internet and/or phone. Because I'm just that cool.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I've been told I walk like I'm angry, so perhaps that. I've always been told I perpetually *look* as if I'm angry, so that's probably a close second. (I'm not angry, I promise. Except when I am.) Otherwise, probably the uncontrolled hair, or the over-exposed cleavage.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte changed my life. I love all the Bronte books, by all the Brontes, excepting those I haven't read ("Shirley," and "Agnes Gray".) I'm fond of the that era of novels in general. Gaskell was cool, if verbose. I also like Young Adult, Urban Fantasy, general literature - I adore Anne Tyler, and Neil Gaiman may be a minor deity. Um. Yes. I love books. The end.

Movies: Again, broad range. I think people who limit themselves to one genre - in anything - are cheap, shallow people. Top movies, however: The Little Mermaid, Princess Bride, Children of Men, The Departed, Howl's Moving Castle, Silence of the Lambs, and Pan's Labyrinth.

Music: Musical theatre's my favorite, but I'll listen to nearly everything. Not huge of jazz, blues, or bluegrass.

Food: I eat. Forever. Unless it's spicy. I may love food more than books, on some days.

The six things I could never do without

I fear I am too realistic to say cutesy, "personalized" answers like, "the fairy statue my grandfather gave me," and "the knitted afghan my host mother gave me when I lived in Poland." Instead:

My cell phone
Books
Food
Laptop
A comfy chair or bed
Sunlight

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Well... lately, I've been spending a lot of time thinking about me. And what six things I couldn't do without. How narcissistic.

On a typical Friday night I am

At home, with a book, lamenting my lack of a life.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

Secretly, I believe that some of the most meaningful relationships you can have are found by pure, random chance. And that they may even exist on the 'net. Somewhere.

You should message me if

You're bored. No, really - if you bore me in return, I won't answer. But seriously: I'm bored, I'm stuck in a cornfield of a school, and it's nearly 1am. I'm looking for someone to toss messages back and forth with. Maybe we'll click, probably we won't, but more hopefully, maybe we'll laugh. Or at least one of us will laugh at the other.
