Okay, so I've cut this down a bit because it was TOO DAMN LONG.
It's still TOO DAMN LONG, but it's at least an improvement. If you
want to see the old, ridiculously long, slightly out of date one,
then just ask :P
My music taste is incredibly large and diverse (my iTunes library,
mostly consisting of music from CDs I own, is currently sitting at
around 14400 tracks - which comes to 44.4 days, apparently) so
talking about it all would be impossible. Nevertheless, the
majority of my listening tends to be made up of progressive,
avant-garde or experimental music, particularly of the rock, metal
or jazz variety.
My all-time favourite band, and in my opinion, the greatest band of
all time, is King Crimson (verified by Jimi Hendrix, and if Hendrix
said it, it surely must be true?). Nevertheless, a close second for
me is the Norwegian Blackjazz band, Shining, who bring a whole new
life to both the metal and jazz genres.
Besides that, some of the albums I've been enjoying a lot recently
from other artists have been:
The Book of Souls by Iron Maiden
The Song Project Live by John Zorn
Soused by Scott Walker + Sunn O)))
South of Heaven by Slayer
Quadrophenia by the Who
Elephant by the White Stripes
FFS by FFS
The Congregation by Leprous
And I've also got a few albums on order at the moment:
La Di Da Di by Battles
Relentless by Slayer
Flowers of Romance by Mouse on the Keys
Behind the Devil's Back by Fightstar
Note: If you make a blanket statement such as "I don't like metal",
chances are I won't take you seriously. Make that double if you
only listen to one or two narrow genres of music. Music is my life,
so being able to talk about it in its many forms is extremely
important to me. Also, I used to use last.fm but have moved away
from it for the time being.
My favourite authors at the moment, and probably for the
foreseeable future, are Milan Kundera and J. G. Ballard, though I
have recently gotten hooked on Stephen King through a recently
developed interest in horror and "scary" literature. I used to read
a lot of fantasy, but haven't done it so much recently, and
hopefully King will be a nice way for me to step back towards it.
I'm also a good chunk into Koushun Takami's Battle Royale, and
thoroughly enjoying it.
I'm a huge book lover and this is only scratching the surface, so
if you're interested, then feel free to ask :)
TV AND FILM:
I don't watch huge amounts of TV or film any more, but I will sit
down to watch some from time to time. Used to watch anime
obsessively, and still do from time to time (thanks Crunchyroll).
My favourite series are Neon Genesis Evangelion and the Monogatari
I do love sci-fi and a lot of British comedy (stand-up, panel
shows, sketch shows and sitcoms) but I haven't followed any of that
religiously for quite a while. My parents got me into a lot of
crime-dramas, too, so I'll happily watch any of them (my recent
favourite has been New Tricks).
What I do follow religiously is Formula One, which has become a bit
of a passion of mine in recent years. I WILL dedicate whole
weekends to watch Practice, Qualifying and the Race, because the
technology and skill involved absolutely fascinates me. I don't
watch much other sport, except occasionally tennis and
I rarely watch films nowadays, but if it's sci-fi, fantasy, Marvel
or British comedy related, I'll happily watch it. I've also
developed a little thing for the works of David Lynch, and in
If I'm watching anything, though, I'm likely watching Youtube. My
favourite Youtubers are ProJared, GameGrumps, Ashens, LAGTV and
Doesn't ask about video games but I'll say anyway; RPGs are my
favourite genre, with the Elder Scrolls being one of my favourite
franchises. I love numerous Nintendo games, particularly in the
Legend of Zelda and Pokemon franchises. I really enjoy strategy
games of all types, but I'm much better at Turn-Based and Grand
Strategy games than RTSes.
I'm not a huge fan of shooters unless they contain a lot of story
or RPG elements, (Bioshock, Farcry series, etc.) though L4D2 and
Planetside 2 with friends are always great fun. I'm also quite
partial to fighters and driving games (Soul Calibur and Gran
BOARD GAMES AND RPGs:
I am a huge fan of board games and tabletop RPGs, as well as card
games (both based around the 52 card pack and TCGs). I play a fair
bit of DnD or similar (e.g. Pathfinder) with friends, but not as
much as I would like since being at university. Skype is a
wonderful tool in that respect.
I love playing (proper) Mahjong. I have my own set and all. I will
happily play any board game, but challenge me to a game of the
Nasty Horse Racing Game and expect no mercy. I've recently become
rather partial to Cards Against Humanity (again, I have my own
Chinese food and Curries tend to be my favourite types of food, and
I'm a bit of a deft hand at cooking either (including a special
recipe for curry, handed down from the Caribbean side of my
family). I love pretty much all meat and seafood, except oysters. I
love most fruit and veggies, too, though, with tropical fruits and
peppers (both sweet and spicy) topping my respective lists.
I love chocolate, cakes, marzipan and sweet things in general. I
have a horrific sweet tooth but also enjoy extremely rich dark
chocolate, both in solid bar and hot drink forms.
I don't eat tomato or cheese, partially because my body doesn't
like them, partially because I don't. That doesn't stop me from
enjoying a barbeque pizza without cheese or meaty spaghetti
