My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.

Music is my life, my passion, my raison d'être. I love it in most all its forms, but I consider myself primarily a composer and academic. As such, I am studying it at university.

I take "I like all music" as a personal challenge. But, hey, if you don't hate any of the music I like, then you're my kind of person.

I do play numerous instruments, though: Viola, Bass Guitar, Violin, Piano, Guitar and I sing. I am most proficient on the first two, and as such those are the only instruments I have been playing in concerts in recent times. The the rest are more like compositional tools for me.

When not doing something to do with music, I'll be reading a book, playing a video game or chilling with my friends. Kinda trying to play through my backlog of Steam games... I could be there a while...

I really love getting to know people! It's so interesting. People are one of the greatest enigmas of this world and they are the source of endless intrigue for me.

I'm a total night owl. I'd probably become nocturnal if I could. I'm getting pretty close as it is.

Joined this place for the hell of it. Why not?

Note: my profile is really long now because I got bored one night. Just go down to whatever section you care most about or find most interesting.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Just finished the second year of my Music BA at Southampton University. Should finish my BA next year, then onto an MA and then hopefully ploughing straight into a phD. My aim is to become a composer and lecturer. Though I'd like to play in a band on the side, too.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Well, music I guess. Composition is my main focus and I spend a lot of time practising my craft as it is what I want to do with my life.

I'd like to think I'm pretty good at video games generally, but I don't tend to spend enough time on one to get REALLY good at any in particular. Though I have poured many, many hours into the Elder Scrolls, Pokemon, the Legend of Zelda, Gran Turismo and Soul Calibur.

I used to be a good swimmer but lack of practise has lead to a large loss of stamina in water and slight degradation of my technique. Would love to get back to doing it more often but I just don't have the time.

I tend to be pretty empathetic too, I suppose.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm pretty tall, and apparently act quite maturely, so people tend to think I'm older than I am, but I'm really just 19.

I've also gained a reputation at university for wearing black... oh dear. I do wear some differently coloured band t-shirts sometimes though! And I'll happily dress up for special occasions.

WARNING! This is SUPER long so I've divided it up into CAPS SECTIONS for your reading pleasure. Just skip to whatever sections you care about/interest you.

MUSIC (the big one):

As a music student, I'm surrounded by a wide expanse of music every day. As such, my music taste is large and diverse (my iTunes library, mostly consisting of music from CDs I own, is currently sitting at around 13300 tracks - which comes to 41.2 days, apparently).

Despite this, a lot of my regular listening tends to be made up of bands that could be considered Progressive Rock or Progressive Metal. I have also become rather partial to Black Metal recently, and I have enjoyed Industrial Rock and Metal for a while now. Various rock and metal bands also hold appeal, from Stoner Rock to Doom Metal to Funk Rock to Classic Rock to Noise Rock to Indie Rock to Ska to... you get the idea.

Jazz Fusion is a recent love that I want to explore further. Likewise with Free Jazz. When it comes to composers, I tend to be mostly interested in Avant-Garde and Experimental ones, encompassing both modernism and postmodernism, though I also have a soft spot for the impressionists. Anything from Total Serialism to Musique Concrete is fair game.

Soundtracks also have a place in my heart. TV series and film soundtracks are good, but video game soundtracks really get me going.

If I had to pick a favourite band of all time it would have to be the almighty King Crimson (yes, they are reforming, yes, I am excited, yes, I will sell most of my organs to see them live). The Norwegian band Shining are definitely up there too, though; they're one of the most exciting bands making music today.

Devin Townsend, Ihsahn, Tool and Primus are all fantastic artists that I keep a regular eye on throughout their all of their projects. I will always have a soft spot for the other 'classic' prog rock bands: Genesis, Yes, Focus, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, etc. and I have the utmost respect and a lot of love for other 'classic' artists like David Bowie, Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, Rush, Queen, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles.

Some of my favourite artists from times gone by are Madness, Franz Ferdinand, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kyuss, Fightstar, Joe Jackson, Muse, Stevie Wonder and Nine Inch Nails. Some other totally awesome bands are Melt-Banana, Meshuggah, Electric Wizard, Gorillaz, Igorrr, Daft Punk and the Eurythmics. There are plenty more that I love though.

John Zorn is another major inspiration for me. Few composers match up to him in my books and his work with Naked City, Painkiller and Masada is sublime. The soundtracks for the Christine Love games Analogue: A Hate Story and Hate Plus, by Isaac Schankler are exquisite and get frequently played on my iTunes. However, the all time greatest soundtracks go to the Ace Attorney games, composed by Masakazu Sugimori, Akemi Kimura and Noriyuki Iwadare.

Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Pierre Boulez, Morton Feldman, John Cage, Benjamin Britten, Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Gustav Holst and Claude Debussy are all people whose music I need to explore more because I love what I know of theirs but I just don't know enough.

You could just check out my I mean, come on, it'll show you exactly what I've been listening to:

Note: If you make a blanket statement such as "I don't like metal", chances are I won't take you seriously. Make that double if you only listen to one or two narrow genres of music. Music is my life so being able to talk about it in its many forms is extremely important to me.

I used to be an avid reader of fantasy but have acquired a taste for more "serious" (I use the word tentatively) books. My favourite authors at the moment are Milan Kundera and J. G. Ballard, though I'm also starting to enjoy Franz Kafka, Anthony Burgess and James Joyce.

This is definitely a section that could and should be expanded by it's such a daunting task that I shall leave it for now.

Avid Formula 1 watcher. Jenson Button, Romain Grosjean and Valtteri Bottas are my favourite drivers. Also love Kevin Magnussen, Sergio Perez, Kamui Kobayashi and Felipe Massa. Go McLaren, Lotus, Williams and Force India!

I love a bit of Doctor Who, Sherlock and numerous Anime, especially Neon Genesis Evangelion. Recently discovered the Monogatari series and am 100% in love with it. It's rivalling Evangelion for my favourite series of all time.

I love comedy shows, like Monty Python, Black Books, Fry and Laurie, The Mighty Boosh and Spaced. Can't go wrong with panel shows either: QI, Buzzcocks, HIGNFY. I'm also partial to a number of solo comedians and stand-ups like Bill Bailey, Tim Minchin, Ed Byrne and Michael McIntyre.

I enjoy most films I see, but most don't stick in my mind if I'm particularly honest, and I haven't been watching that many recently. If I had to name a favourite, at the moment it would probably be Pulp Fiction. However, I also love Inception, the Avengers, Hard Candy, the Rush Hour series and the Cornetto Trilogy (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, World's End).

Doesn't ask about video games but I'll say anyway; I love RPGs mostly (my favourite game series is the Elder Scrolls), also partial to specific fighters and driving games (Soul Calibur and Gran Turismo respectively). Love lots of Nintendo games. Not a huge fan of shooters unless they contain a lot of story or RPG elements e.g. Bioshock, Farcry series. Though L4D2 with friends is hilarious. I enjoy RTS games but am terrible at them. I also enjoy Turn Based Strategy games and Grand Strategy games, and am significantly better at them than RTSes.

I am a huge fan of board games and tabletop RPGs, as well as card games (both based around the 52 card pack and TCGs). I play a fair bit of DnD or similar (e.g. Pathfinder) with friends, but not as much as I would like since being at university. Skype is a wonderful tool in that respect.

I love playing (proper) Mahjong. I have my own set and all. I will happily play any board game, but challenge me to a game of the Nasty Horse Racing Game and expect no mercy. I've recently become rather partial to Cards Against Humanity (again, I have my own set).

I've become a deft hand at cooking Chinese style food, because of my love of it. Nothing can quite beat a proper Chinese takeaway though.

I love curry, particularly because of the Caribbean side of the family, whose special recipe I have learnt for myself and is well loved by my housemates when I decide to cook the house a meal. I will occasionally stoop to a takeaway version, though, as it has its own charm.

I don't eat tomato or cheese, partially because my body doesn't like them, partially because I don't. That doesn't stop me from enjoying a barbeque pizza without cheese or meaty spaghetti bolognaise though!

Most seafood is absolutely fantastic. I love trying different and new fish, and prawns, scallops and scampi are all delicious. I can't stand oysters though... My favourite meat is duck but I like most meats. Couldn't live without bacon. Slow cooked red meat is a secret love of mine.

I love chocolate, cakes, marzipan and sweet things in general. I have a horrific sweet tooth but also enjoy extremely rich dark chocolate, both in solid bar and hot drink forms.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Music
2. My instruments
3. My laptop
4. Video Games
5. Books
6. Friends and family
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Music. New riffs and time signatures and sequences are always moving around in my head. I also like thinking about fantasy things, y'know dragons and elves and all that. When I can't escape reality, the future always tends to make an appearance too, as well as politics and other boring and depressing things.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Writing music, working, down the pub or playing video games with friends, or ideally going to a gig.

You can usually find me at the pub after any of my rehearsals, too.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have a number of phobias, and can be quite easily freaked out by things. I can only take scary video games in small doses, for instance. Being with somebody would probably get me to play them for longer, though...

Besides that... well, I have honestly thought about this section a lot since joining this website and honestly cannot think of anything else. Maybe I'm just boring.

I'm pretty open though! I'll happily answer most questions, even if they're pretty personal. I'm VERY rarely offended by anything.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You love music - especially the same sort of types that I do! (The weirder the better!)

You want to recommend some music or books to me!

You want to talk about music or books or art in general!

You want to talk about video games or play some! (ask me for my steam name!)

You want someone to join a DnD (or similar) party!

You want to talk about how incredible the universe is, or how confusing the human condition is!

You find me an interesting person! I don't bite :) But, please, don't just message "hi, how are you?". Say something that's worth discussion! Maybe show that you've at least read bits of my profile?
