My self-summary
hey girl,

i am, in many ways, defined by my obsessions. past obsessions have included particular media products, real and fictional personalities, philosophies, sports/games, and fashions. my obsession du jour is the legend of zelda. you'll see other contemporary obsessions (like community and the riddler) pop up throughout my profile.

speaking of obsessions, i love the NBC show community the way the character abed, from community (henceforth referred to simply as abed), loves cougartown and inspector spacetime.

i'm quirky and eccentric, but i think in a cute, lovable way like young robin williams, not in a creepy way like old robin williams.

i enjoy nerdy/geeky activities, especially games: video games, trading card games, board games, all kinds of games. puzzle games are the best. RPGs are a close second. given the chance, i will always play a rogue-type.

my preferred typeface is sabon.

i'm a HUGE proponent of the oxford comma.

i'm an absurdist. i like hipster fashions but dislike hipster apathy. i enjoy wordplay and puns. i often wear plaids and argyles.

my myers-briggs type is INTP/INTJ. (i'm on the borderline between perceiving and judging.)

one of my proudest accomplishments is having my e-mail read by craig ferguson: http://twitvid.com/C634A

my most-prized possession is my the amazing spider-man #573 stephen colbert variant cover.

i've been told i look like jason schwartzman, justin long, and demetri martin. of the three, i prefer jason schwartzman. people (usually women) often tell me that i have nice hair, sometimes tell me that i have a nice butt, and occasionally tell me that i have nice eyelashes.
What I’m doing with my life
i moved to madison in fall 2010 after living in kentucky all my life. i was born and raised in louisville, and i lived in lexington for 6 years while i went to the university of kentucky. i got my B.S. in telecommunications and my M.A. in communication.

i'm now working on my PhD in mass communication at UW. my academic interests revolve around alternative forms of political activism. i'm particularly interested in emerging forms of activism via new media and gamification.
I’m really good at
sarcasm, irony, puns, and other forms of dry humor. that's-what-she-said jokes. also, grammar. except for here--none of these are complete sentences. and i don't use capitalization for aesthetic and philosophical reasons. but otherwise, i'm usually really well at grammar.

analyzing community. i've watched every episode at least twice. i've watch most episodes 5+ times. i understand the study group almost as acutely as abed does.

i'm also really good at enjoying music. if music i know is playing, i'm probably singing, playing air guitar or air drums, dancing, or at least wiggling my hips. the singing will be off-pitch and the air guitar/drums will look odd; but i'll be having fun. i'm not sure about the dancing, but i think it's better than the singing. the hip-wiggling will be epic.
The first things people usually notice about me
is i look ridiculous. most of what people notice falls under the category 'hipster fashions'. but make no mistake: i enjoy these things completely unironically.

1. my hair. it's naturally dark and straight. on more than one occasion, drunk strangers have referred to me as 'emo'. although i enjoy some emo music, i'm not going for an emo look; it's purely coincidental.

2. my facial hair. possible permutations include amish-style bushy-beard-sans-moustache, long sideburns, and/or handlebar moustache. (okay, the handlebar moustache was a little ironic.)

3. my outift. my pants will be skinny. in the summer, my shirt will have a deep v. there's a good chance it will be a women's shirt. in the winter, there will be plaid involved. lots of plaid.

regarding my personality: people notice my sense of humor--more specifically that i'm often sarcastic. i think it's important to recognize the humor and the irony in life, because taking life too seriously only creates unnecessary stress.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
top fives (but not ranked 1-5; just in alphabetical order)

books: catch-22, narcissus and goldmund, the plague, tao te ching, the theory of communicative action

i also enjoy comic books--mainly marvel, but I've recently gotten into DC via the green lantern. i'm also somewhat obsessed with the riddler, because we have a lot in common.

TV: breaking bad, the colbert report, community, fringe, parks & rec

movies: charlie and the chocolate factory, the dark knight, drive, no country for old men, pirates of the caribbean quadlogy (i don't think quadlogy is a word, but what else would you call a set of four movies?)

contemporary artists: the avett brothers, death cab for cutie, the decemberists, my morning jacket, jack white (and his various bands)

classic rock: boston, fleetwood mac, the jimi hendrix experience, led zeppelin, queen

i'm not too picky about food. i'm a little picky about beer. i prefer wheat ales. i especially like sam adams wheat ales.
The six things I could never do without
i don't really need six things. as long as i can watch the colbert report and community and listen to my music collection, the rest is gravy.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
typefaces.

ways that i am like comic book characters.

ways that i can be more like comic book characters.

ways that i am like abed.

ways that i can be more like abed.

ways that i could get to hang out with danny pudi, who plays abed.

whether or not i'm too obsessed with abed and community, or just the right amount of obsessed.
On a typical Friday night I am
this is a curious prompt...

i have no particular plans for fridays. on a 'typical' friday, i do 'typical' things like hang out with friends, or read comics/watch TV at home.

by definition, a 'typical' day is unremarkable. i don't know how to make what i do on fridays sound interesting.

but i think this prompt is really asking about my hobbies. so let me tell you about my hobbies on other days of the week.

monday: a few of my friends and i play dungeons & dragons on mondays. i'm a level 4 human rogue inspired by the comic character deadpool.

tuesday: tuesday is video game night. i play video games with friends who live in kentucky. it's something i look forward to every week, more because of the friends than the games we play.

wednesday: no plans on wednesdays.

thursday: community used to be on thursday. but then it was supposed to be on fridays during fall 2012. and then NBC changed their minds, and moved it back to thursday, but decided to sit on it until february. so come spring 2013, on thursdays i will watch community.

friday: we've covered that.

saturday: i watch saturday-morning cartoons (young justice, green lantern) and power rangers. no plans for saturday evenings.

sunday: more cartoons! i really like the new teenage mutant ninja turtles animated series. in the evening i watch whichever awesome AMC show is currently in-season: either walking dead or breaking bad.

other hobbies, not associated with a particular day of the week:

i go to quite a few concerts. i really like the majestic as a venue, and i get to milwaukee for shows (usually at the riverside theater) fairly often.

i play magic: the gathering.

and i enjoy bicycling, which was the focus of my thesis.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
well, a few sections up i told you that i have a lot in common with a supervillain. riddle me this: is that private enough?

i'm kind of a loose cannon re: self-disclosure. i'll tell you pretty much anything you want to know. maybe more than you want to know. just talk to me long enough and i'm bound to dive into a lengthy self-analysis.

no one told me when i signed up that people use silly handles on this site. and i don't feel like creating a new profile and answering all those questions again. so yeah: that's my real name, and that's the handle i use on all the other social media. if you really want to know more about me, you can use it to stalk me hard on twitter, facebook, and pinterest.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 22–30
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
is this another riddle? the answer seems obvious: message me if a geeky, witty guy with hipster mannerisms, who has awesome taste in fashion and media, and is prone to introspection and philosophical musing sounds interesting.

message me especially if you want to talk about the legend of zelda or community.
