My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
i am, in many ways, defined by my obsessions. contemporary obsessions include ozymandias, the legend of zelda, community, the riddler, and doctor strange.

i enjoy nerdy/geeky activities, especially games: video games, trading card games, board games, all kinds of games. puzzle games are the best. RPGs are a close second. given the chance, i will always play a rogue-type.

my preferred typeface is sabon.

i'm a HUGE proponent of the oxford comma.

i'm an absurdist. i enjoy wordplay and puns. i often wear plaids and argyles.

my myers-briggs type is INTP, although i lean pretty close to INTJ.

one of my proudest accomplishments is making craig ferguson laugh:

my most-prized possession is my signed copy of wired with chris hardwick on the cover. i also like my the amazing spider-man #573 stephen colbert variant cover.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
i moved to madison in fall 2010 after living in kentucky all my life. i was born and raised in louisville, and i lived in lexington for 6 years while i went to the university of kentucky. i got my B.S. in telecommunications and my M.A. in communication.

i'm now working on my PhD in mass communication at UW. my academic interests revolve around civic engagement, particularly changing forms of organizational and individual activism in a networked environment.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
sarcasm, irony, puns, and other forms of dry humor. that's-what-she-said jokes. also, grammar. except for here--none of these are complete sentences. and i don't use capitalization for aesthetic and philosophical reasons. but otherwise, i'm usually really well at grammar.

analyzing community. i've watched every episode at least twice. i've watch most episodes 5+ times. i understand the study group almost as acutely as abed does.

enjoying music. if music i know is playing, i'm probably singing, playing air guitar or air drums, dancing, or at least wiggling my hips. the singing will be off-pitch and the air guitar/drums will look odd; but i'll be having fun. i'm not sure about the dancing, but i think it's better than the singing. the hip-wiggling will be epic.
The first things people usually notice about me

is my style: facial hair. nerdy t-shirts. skinny jeans. plaid--lots of plaid. chuck taylors with batman on them.

if they get past the style, they notice that my sense of humor is just as ridiculous as the way i look. i strongly believe in recognizing the irony in life.

top fives (but not ranked 1-5; just in alphabetical order)

books: catch-22, narcissus and goldmund, the plague, tao te ching, the theory of communicative action

comic books: batman, civil war, geoff johns' run on green lantern, spider-man, watchmen

video games: batman: arkham city, borderlands 2, braid, fez, the legend of zelda franchise (especially ocarina of time)

TV: adventure time, breaking bad, the colbert report, community, parks & rec

movies: charlie and the chocolate factory, the dark knight trilogy, drive, no country for old men, pirates of the caribbean quadlogy (i don't think quadlogy is a word, but what else would you call a set of four movies?)

contemporary artists: the avett brothers, death cab for cutie, the decemberists, my morning jacket, outkast, kanye west, jack white (and his various bands). i know that's more than 5, but those are all really good!

classic rock: boston, fleetwood mac, the jimi hendrix experience, led zeppelin, queen

recently in heavy rotation: beck, HAIM (#bassface), local natives, of monsters and men, nickel creek

i'm not too picky about food or drink. i like wheat ales. and i'm from kentucky, so: bourbon.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
community. we're getting really close to #sixseasonsandamovie.

the colbert report. i'm a sad that it's ending soon.

those 3 are probably sufficient.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.

ways that i am like comic book and TV characters.

ways that i can be more like comic book and TV characters.

whether or not i'm too obsessed with abed and community, or just the right amount of obsessed.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
this is a curious prompt...

i have no particular plans for fridays. on a 'typical' friday, i do 'typical' things like hang out with friends, or read comics/watch TV at home.

by definition, a 'typical' day is unremarkable. i don't know how to make what i do on fridays sound interesting.

but i think this prompt is really asking about my hobbies. so let me tell you about my hobbies on other days of the week.

monday: a few of my friends and i used to play dungeons & dragons on mondays. in our last campaign i made it to level 4 as a human rogue inspired by the comic character deadpool. we just started a new campaign of the star wars RPG (edge of the empire). i'm a twi'lek bounty hunter, with assassin and gadgeteer specializations.

tuesday: tuesday is video game night. i play video games with friends who live in kentucky. it's something i look forward to every week, more because of the friends than the games we play.

wednesday: no plans on wednesdays.

thursday: watching community.

friday: we've covered that.

saturday: there used to be some good saturday-morning cartoons, but not so much anymore... no plans for saturday evenings.

sunday: the teenage mutant ninja turtles animated series is decent (certainly better than that michael bay disaster of a movie). in the evening i watch whichever awesome AMC show is currently in-season: formerly breaking bad, currently walking dead and halt and catch fire.

other hobbies, not associated with a particular day of the week:

i go to quite a few concerts. i really like the majestic as a venue, and i get to milwaukee for shows (usually at the riverside theater) fairly often.

i play magic: the gathering.

and i enjoy bicycling, which was the focus of my thesis.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
i like the star wars prequels. i don't love them, but they're better than people give them credit for.
