I grew up on the west side of P-town and graduated from PSU with two degrees (SLM and Japanese). I lived in Sapporo for a year in a student exchange program and I have many fond memories of my time there. From the time we "lost" one of our Swedish friends on New Year's, to the time I sampled Tokyo's hostels for a week with my Russian friend (and didn't get lost on the subway!), or the time I spent over $1,000 in one night at a yakuza club (I didn't realize the champagne was so expensive and those Japanese gangsters looked ready to bust my knee cap!), I had a blast.
I'm into cars, but not in that "I'll talk your head off about all the cool technical stuff I just read in this auto mag" kind of way. (I have plenty of guy friends like that.) It's more like that "give me an open lane and some good music and I'm having a good time" way these days.
I love to be outdoors (camping, hiking, whatever). Not many things make me happier -- like the time I decided to just climb up a hill at the edge of the Snake River in Hells Canyon in 95 degree weather just to see if I could. That was certainly a satisfying climb! I also did Larch Mountain from Multnomah Falls last year in 95 degree heat (you'd think I'd learn!) but when you see the view from the summit next to those that just drove to the viewpoint you realize that your experience is so much more rewarding because you earned it! I wouldn't consider myself an experienced outdoorsman so if you want hit a trail and show me some stuff, I'm not too proud to learn!
