I am friendly, down to earth, and funny.

My Self-Summary

I'm a nice guy with a good sense of humor.
I'm a reader and a writer and a daydreamer; not professionally though. I am between gigs as a programmer/analyst contractor.
I have a house where I live with my dog Bock and cat Rowdy. I spend a lot of time rambling around local parks and wooded areas with Bock. There are a lot of reclaimed railroad trails around here that we like to walk.
I enjoy most outdoor activities but lately it's mostly walking, hiking and bike riding. I ride an older Honda 750(K) motorcycle for fun in the warmer weather. I also have a sailboat that I would love to get out more often if only I could find a swabby to help float 'er. Arrrgh!
I like to explore, so, I enjoy new restaurants and old bars, bookstores, fairs, flea markets, auctions, shops, museums, lectures, travel, historical places, etc. In other words, I'm easily amused.
I'm liberal on most issues and try to keep an eye on what's happening politically. I'm kind of a news junkie and listen to NPR and visit news sites throughout most days. On Sundays I watch the political roundup type shows.
Smoking is a dealbreaker for me. It gives me a headache and the whole bit.

What I’m doing with my life

I was on the road less traveled but some how got off of it and am now wondering around in the yellow woods. It's beautiful in here.

I’m really good at

Christmas time but for the rest of the year: I'm a real handful.

The first things people usually notice about me

My glasses. The frames are dark and tend to dominate my face. I can't tell you how much I would have appreciated a smart, creative, fashion-aware woman to give me an honest opinion while picking these out.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I read and enjoyed a lot of classics in college. I still enjoy rereading Shakespeare plays in the riverside edition I kept. I like to hunt down good books I hear about and the ones that usually appeal to me are Fiction. For fun I read Science Fiction / Fantasy and would probably put Asimov and Heinlein as my favorites. Right now I'm in the middle of 'Independent People' by Laxness.
Here are some of the authors I have on my book shelves or I remember fondly: Fleming, Le Carre, Conan Doyle, Pynchon, King (love hate relationship with him), Tolkien, Mosley, Plathe (so good - so depressing), Gibson and Wodehouse. Well, there are a lot more that I can't think of right now.

I like good movies of any kind. Comedies and action adventure are probably what I see most of. I like the Coen brothers a lot and "The Big Lebowski" is very high up on my list. I like new movies as well as classics. Tarantino, The godfather movies (I & II), Scorses, Luc Besson, Cameron, The Matrix movies. Marx brothers, W.C. Fields, Bob Hope, The Thin Man movies, Jerry Lewis. Well, I could go on and on. Don't think I like everything though. I have pretty strong opinions about movies and like to discuss them.

Music? I mostly listen to the radio so I get classic rock, Rhythm & Blues and Soul there. Usually I end up leaving it on 103.3 in St. Louis when I'm not on 90.7 for NPR.

I like all kinds of food: probably too much. I'm loving the tomatoes, peppers and beans from my garden this summer. I'm trying to learn to appreciate good, local, fresh food.

The six things I could never do without

My imagination
My computer and connection for browsing
Books
Movies
News
Pen and paper for writing

I spend a lot of time thinking about

How society is screwed up and what would be a better way to do things. Better housing possibilities for people world wide (I'm a fan of Buckminster Fuller). Woodworking/home improvement ideas and, more often then not, why they would be too difficult or expensive to tackle. Story ideas. Politics

On a typical Friday night I am

Cleaning up the carnage that piles up around my house during the week.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

"It's in that place where I put that thing that time"

You should message me if

You're fun

You're open to learning, loving and experiencing - I'm talking about life, baby! Seriously, if you're too cool for school then it's just gonna be lecture - spank, lecture - spank all day long.
