My self-summary

My name is Matt, and after originally hailing from Nebraska, spending a couple years in Los Angeles, and living the last eight years in Chicago, I decided it was finally time to tackle the last of the big three cities (and what some might argue is the greatest city in the world), New York. I’ve only been here a few months, but it’s been nothing short of amazing. If you have suggestions of things to do off the beaten (touristy) path, send them my way!

Describing my personality, I would say I’m one part Bill Murray, one part Kevin Smith, with a dash of Dave Attell. I consider myself a compulsive hobbyist and when I stumble across something that looks even remotely interesting, I tend to turn into the dog from “Up.” (SQUIRREL!) I’ve also been told I’m a kind and considerate person, just ask Bono about the time I prevented him from falling off a guard rail while he belted out “Sunday Bloody Sunday.”

I’m a fan of sports, and have adopted my favorite teams from the places I’ve lived (Nebraska Huskers, Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks). I still need to find myself a New York sports team, unless of course they have a professional ping pong team, because is there anything more fun than a good old fashioned game of ping pong?
What I’m doing with my life
I work in advertising as an art director. The job is a blast and I spend most of my day working in Photoshop (or as I call it, the coloring book for adults). When I'm not at work, I'm probably out exploring the city with my DSLR in hand, trying to find a good concert to check out, or possibly pulling a double feature at the movie theater.
I’m really good at
Acting like I always know what I'm doing, even if I dont.
The first things people usually notice about me
I was once told I had the eyes of Boy George.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The Late Shift, The War For Late Night, Live From New York, Sideways, The Stand, It, Private Parts. I definitely prefer non-fiction.

Ghostbusters, Jaws, Back to the Future (all three), Clerks, Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and pretty much any Coen Brothers flick.

Mad Men, South Park, Shameless, It's Always Sunny, The Sopranos, Lost, Seinfeld, Entourage, Impractical Jokers, MST3K, The X-Files, 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Shark Tank and Saved by the Bell (don't judge!)

U2, Bruce Springsteen, Ben Folds, The Beatles, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, The Vaccines, Ween, Green Day, Van Morrison, Two Door Cinema Club, Young the Giant, The Beach Boys, Coldplay, The Dead Milkmen, Elsinore, Tenacious D ... pretty much anything but post 1985 country.
The six things I could never do without
1. Family/Friends (cliché but true)
2. Canon DSLR
3. Music
4. Creativity
5. A nice whiskey
6. Thumbs
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Making a trip to the other side of the world.
On a typical Friday night I am
Browsing the "Things To Do This Weekend" section of Time Out New York.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm the worst dancer in the world... I make Elaine look good.
You should message me if
To sum up (and to prevent the length of this profile from hitting Stephen King proportions), if anything I've rambled on about sounds fun or interesting, you have suggestions of things I must try out in New York, or just want to say hello.
