My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
"'A life, Jimmy. You know what that is? It's the shit that happens while you're waiting for moments that never come."
- Lester Freamon, The Wire

I love science and science fiction, especially Doctor Who. I make delicious food and awful puns. I'm not a fan of big loud parties, I'd much rather go out to dinner or play a board game with a few good friends and a few good drinks. My personal politics could best be described as "Inarticulate liberal/intersectional-feminist-in-training".
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm halfway through a Masters degree studying the genetics of inherited muscle diseases. I'm really enjoying it and feel very lucky to work with such an awesome group of people. It's a pity I make bugger-all as a student but you can't have everything I guess. When I finish my degree next year I really want to get a job in research and keep doing what I'm doing now for the rest of my life, only for more money :P

I love to cook in my spare time. Going home, putting MasterChef on and assembling a new dish makes me as happy as a pig in shi... uh, mud. For me though, most of the point of cooking is sharing the food with other people. My favourite cuisines are Indian and anything old-school European.

Outside of work and cooking I sometimes play boardgames with my friends. I also play a bit of ArcheAge, but I try to be disciplined with when I log on because MMOs can take over your life very easily. Motivating myself to clean the house is hard enough is hard enough as it is!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Cooking/Baking
Writing
Making people laugh when they least expect it
Science
Cryptic Crosswords (well sort of)
Remembering the name of the guy who was in the thing with that lady who sings the song your friend doesn't like, you know the one...
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
My height. I'm tall, but not really "WOW that guy is tall!" tall. And probably my accent? It's a sort of Irish-English-Aussie blend that I inherited from my parents despite living in Perth all my life. Also, I instinctively walk quietly so sometimes I sneak up on people by accident. I guess in those cases the first thing they notice is that I'm THERE AT ALL WHOA JESUS I SPILLED MY DRINK.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: Cat's Cradle, Lord Jim, Rendezvous With Rama, Small Gods,
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, Dracula, The Selfish Gene, The
Mote In God's Eye, The Phantom of the Opera. I'm on a bit of a bender of Doctor Who books at the moment.

Movies: 2001 - A Space Odyssey, The Blues Brothers, The Castle,
Inception, The Avengers

Shows: DOCTOR WHO, The Wire, Torchwood (yeah I know), Misfits, Game of Thrones, Babylon 5.

Music: Loads of different stuff, but I'm particularly into the more melodic kinds of dance/electro - Daft Punk, Justice, Cut Copy, The Avalanches, Bag Raiders.

Food: Anything that's not too spicy! I love cooking, especially if it's something I've never tried before.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Friends
Coffee
A good book to read
Mirepoix
At least one lie-in per week :)
Making people laugh (I think it's the meaning of life)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
Usually some kind of problem-solving, whether it's to do with my job or in my own life. I also think about Doctor Who. Like, a lot.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Probably in watching Netflix or about to log on to ArcheAge (don't worry, I get out of the house other times in the week).
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I have chronic depression and anxiety but for the most part I control them. Sometime's my brain's like "Isn't everything meaningless yet also really scary?" but I'll be all "FUCK YOU I'M TOO OLD FOR THIS SHIT" and elbow it in the face.

FUN FACT: According to Wikipedia, "...[L]orem ipsum is placeholder text (filler text) commonly used to demonstrate the graphics elements of a document or visual presentation". It is also handy for people who wish to have 1000 words in their profile without yammering on about themselves forever and ever. Eodem modo typi, qui nunc nobis videntur parum clari, fiant sollemnes in futurum, and see if I don't!
