Hello there! I am new to the DC area after living in the Detroit metro area and mid-Michigan for many years and living in Brazil for about a year. I am ready to get out and meet new people and experience all that this area has to offer (well, as much as I can while starting my new job and raising my son).

I am a pretty open-minded person, but I do have a strong moral code; I am anti-racist, anti-sexist, anti-heterosexist, and against religious intolerance. I am nice and friendly, about 85% of the time...which I think is a pretty high percentage.

I don't really fit too well in folks' boxes, which is fine with me...I am very much a nerd, homegirl, diva, earthy boho, strong black woman, romantic, bourgie, intellectual, free spirit, and nurturer...

I like to hang out with confident men with well checked egos, friendly guys who like to communicate and experience new things. If that is you, then hit me up!!!!

I am currently working in the public health services field. I am also a single parent to a teenage boy. Additionally, I am really into running. I currently run about 20 miles a week, and will be increasing that mileage by more than double in the current months as I train for my first marathon.

When I had a huge head of natural hair, I often got stopped on the street and asked about it. Now that I have cut all my hair off, I still get stopped on the street. My kool-aid smile and dimples also seem to attract attention.

books: I am currently into reading books by endurance athletes and about healthy living...right now, I am part of the way through "Finding Ultra", "You are an Ironman", and "Racing Weight".
I also like to read motivational/spiritual books...I am reading "Radical Acceptance" and plan on reading Gabrielle Reece's new book as well as "Lean In".

movies...I am open to many types, but I do like indie films, foreign films, movies with people of color as central characters...favorites include: The Secretary, Friday (but not the sequels), Rachel Getting Married, Cidade Baixa, The Sound of Music, The Visitor, Lars and the Real Girl, Jumping the Broom, Coming to America, Love Actually...

music...bossa nova, jazz, r&b, some hip hop, "world music",blues, classical; Corinne Bailey Rae, Robin Thicke, The Noisettes, Damien Rice, The Roots, Macy Gray, Janelle Monae, Rhianna, Rodrigo y Gabriela...those are all on heavy rotation..

now food, I love Indian and Ethiopian the best, Bahian food is great too (NE Brazil...very much like US Black soul food)....Jamaican and Thai...I prefer to eat lots of veggies and not too much meat...

dental floss, Vaseline, exercise, the internet, something to read, and people to connect with on some level

physical, mental, and spiritual well being and my short and long term goals...

decompressing from the work week (40 hour work weeks are brutal, says the former grad student), preparing for my early Sat. morning run (I am part of Black Girls Run DC, and yes, we do), or, if I'm lucky, out on the town (maybe with you????)
