My self-summary
The last year and a half has seen a lot of changes for me. I ended a fifteen year relationship, lost my home, and went back to college. It's been scary and exciting for me, and I'm getting back on my feet and am getting back to a positive place. I work full time and go to school part time, so I don't have a lot of free time. I would need to be with someone who can be understanding of that. That being said, I will always make time for the right person. I'm not looking for "new friends" unless it leads to something more than just a friendship. I'm slowly getting back to a place where I'd prefer a long-term relationship.
What I’m doing with my life
Working full time and studying Physical Therapy Assisting.
I’m really good at
School. I've been quite proud of how well I've done since I've gone back. I really wasn't a good student in my late teens and twenties when I was pursuing a creative writing degree. Life had to kick me around a bit, in the form of joining the Marines, before I grew up enough to apply myself. Once upon a time, I would've said my martial arts, boxing and exercise, but I've had to sacrifice to focus on school. Like most skills, you have to practice, and I find I just don't have the time and energy.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm told I have warm brown eyes. I'm also told that I can be too serious. If you encounter this, just smile or tell me a joke. It's very easy to get me back into a good mood.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Too many of all to list here, but I'll mention my favorites of late. Just finished reading Horns by Joe Hill (also read Heart Shaped Box and 20th Century Ghosts by him), and a collection of old detective noir novels by Lawrence Block. I really enjoyed Joyland by Stephen King, more mystery than horror, but his best in a while for me. Just finished Ironhorse, the latest in Robert B. Parkers Appaloosa series. Most recent movie I watched was Her, at least at the cinema. I'm a huge movie geek and I'm always watching something.
Enjoy a lot of Britcoms and BBC shows, old and new. Parks and Rec and 30 Rock were my favorite sitcoms (don't have time to watch any regularly anymore). Enjoying on demand re-runs of the series Hannibal a great deal. A great cast and really well done. It's inspiring me to re-read Red Dragon by Thomas Harris (which will probably mean re-watching the movie Manhunter). A vicious cycle, which probably tells you a lot about how my twisted brain works.
Musically, I enjoy too wide a variety to name them all. I have Alabama Shakes, Neko Case, and Willie Nelson in the car CD player right now. I also discovered a cd of 60's Japanese garage bands in a discount bin that was a huge amount of fun for an impulse buy. I like jazz and classical to relax to, and classic rock & country and old school r&b and funk to have on in the background.
I'm very open minded when it comes to food as long as it's not too spicy. Sadly, I'm lactose intolerant, but it rarely keeps me from finding something I can have at most restaurants.
The six things I could never do without
1. A good read
2. My friends and family
3. My gym membership (Don't exercise as much as I used to, but I still need to let off some steam now and again.)
4. Sense of purpose (I have to be doing something that is important, and not just for me.)
I'll list the rest as I think of them.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
In general, I just think too much. I'd like to spend more time just having fun.
On a typical Friday night I am
Not necessarily Friday, since I have to study some Fridays, but I do have fun nite one nite a week. Fun night might just be pool or darts with my friends, an Indianapolis Indians game, or burlesque bingo at the White Rabbit in Fountain Square. Also would like to go back to the IMA again this season. I've been there more in the past year than the previous five. Though I'd be just as happy staying in with someone special, and I'm always up for suggestions.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I have a huge man-crush on Richard Armitage, the actor who plays Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit. Damnit, if only I could grow a beard like that.
