I was born in Ohio and moved to California when I was 33. I love it here. I was raised Catholic and attended a small Catholic school system for twelve years but I am no longer a believer. My younger daughter tells me that I have a Latin soul, although I'm not really sure what she means by that.
According to the Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator personality theory, I am an INTP, which means an Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, Perceiver. We're a rather scarce breed, representing only about 1% of the population (although we're over-represented online due to our attraction to computers and technical fields).
As for philosophy, I'm an individualist with a good dollop of Objectivism thrown in but I'm not a Randroid. Politically, I'm a libertarian, specifically an anarcho-capitalist. I don't believe in participation in coercive politics -- education is better than voting, and direct personal involvement, not vicarious diktats issued through the political process, is the most moral and meaningful form of participation in human community. I don't like pushing people and I really don't like being pushed. I'm a very curious person. I ask lots of questions about anything and everything. I usually read moderately, and voraciously when I have the time and opportunity. I form opinions easily but tend to be laid-back. I have very eclectic tastes in quite a few things like movies, music, art, and literature. I am a diligent dilettante and an incorrigible inveterate verbivore (one who enjoys words and wordplay of all kinds). I love quotes, le mot juste, anagrams, oxymora, sniglets, song lyrics, and poetry. I have a good memory for trivia. I like travel, or at least good sight-seeing, hiking, camping, stargazing, and very amateur photography but I don't make nearly enough chances to indulge in any of these things and tend to be something of a homebody very frequently. I'm not a big socializer but I'm friendly and polite. I am a creature of habit, but my curiosity precludes me being very disciplined about it. I love movies, but only watch television if the company is good. I'm an introvert but I love conversation.
I've been divorced since the spring of 2004 and was previously married for twelve years to a lady I met in college and with whom I am still reasonably good friends. I enjoyed being married, even if my first attempt ultimately didn't work out as optimally as I would have hoped. I have two wonderful daughters aged 23 and 20 (in 2013) who live about 100 miles away and visit me infrequently.
